Avro energy help please

Hello, Martin Lewis says fuel prices will rocket after October due to the increase in the price cap.
I currently pay £140 per month and my tariff  is fixed until Jan 22 .
A comparison on MSE today  says if I swapped today the cheapest fixed deal would be £181 per month an increase of £487 per year.
The cheapest variable tariff £151 per month.
However if i get a quote from my current supplier Avro it says I can swap to Simple and Flow12m, which will be  £157 per month , £1,879 per year starting when my current tariff expires in 2022
I am totally confused. If the cheapest deal on MSE is £181 now and will iincrease in Oct isn't it a no brainer to grab the quote from Avro now ( as long as it starts in Jan 2022 ) or am I missing something.
TIA

If you are on a fix until Jan 2022 then my suggestion is that you stick with it.
Martin has made many references recently to the fact that Standard Variable Rates are going to increase sharply from October. As you are on a fixed rate at the moment that will not affect you until your contract expires in January.
Looking further ahead, however, if the current surge in wholesale energy prices continues then you could expect that, when your contract ends in January, there will be a fairly sharp increase in your energy bills when you renew/switch.
Hope that puts your mind at ease.

Thanks Consumerist for your reply. I quite agree I should stick with my current tariff, however according to the Avro website if I swapped to the cheapest tariff currently on offer it woud not start until the tariff i am on now expires in Jan 2022, so I my payments would stay the same for another 6 months then increase £17 per month.
If I wait until Jan to look for anothe tariff the cheapest might be much more than that.
As there is no exit fees I don't see why I should wait till January, thanks once again

Sadly, I don't think that will be the case. As far as I know, Avro will hold a tariff for the 6 weeks before your contract ends, usually for the period between when you get your renewal letter and the end of contract.
If you think about it, holding you to a tariff switch for 6 months is a bit unrealistic. Would you want to switch to it, anyway, if energy prices collapsed between now and then?

I must admit it does seem a bit strange, that's why I thought I may be missing something. I find most things confusing these days, thanks very much for your advice :)

i have tried a few other comparison sites tonight and the results were seiously better. I checked what tariff I had entered into MSE and it was wrong, apparently the Avro Simple and SuperPremier does not exist on MSE. So I think thats where I went wrong. Sorry for the confusion folks

It has long been a beef that if you are already an Avro customer then MSE CEC does not show other Avro tariffs.
Best bet, as an existing Avro customer, is to get a quote directly from the Avro site. The green "Get a Quote" button will normally give you a quote for the cheapest tariff available to you in your region.
