Yes it does. Where do you think the top of the chain goes a lot of the time?NameUnavailable said:I don't know why people say they will move into rented accommodation, perhaps they think it's easy to find somewhere for a few weeks but then in the cold light of day realise they have to move all their stuff twice, may need to pay for storage as well as deposits, new utilities, etc. etc., for a minimum of 6 months.Never trust anyone who says that, it hardly ever happens.0 -

Minority do that. If we waited for every chain where someone was going to st Peter then hardly any sales would take place.jimbog said:

I know of a couple of people who said they would go into rented accommodation but just couldn't get anywhere that suited their needs and would be easier buying a house. Some have seen a house they like in between so have decided to buy, things change during the process unfortunately.2

My original plan under 'normal' times was to sell and rent and then buy. But the rentals market in many areas is just as crazy as the buy and sell market, with little decent stock and 12 month minimum contracts becoming standard.Irishpearce26 said:I know of a couple of people who said they would go into rented accommodation but just couldn't get anywhere that suited their needs and would be easier buying a house. I changed my mind and even though my chain isn't complete (seller looking onwards), I won't be going into rental and have made it clear. It just isn't worth the hassle and money. I can completely understand why people change their minds when they realise the reality of it.
edit: I changed my mind before putting my house on the market, not during.2 -
A technical point, in that it is possible to rent for upto 6 months. That is to take on a short-term/holiday let.It will be (very) expensive both with the rental costs and storage of stuff that can't fit, but it is a possibility. The one short-term let I was aware of (which wasn't AirB&B) charged by the day, but I think offered free water, electricity, Sky and broadband. Not sure if the taxman, banks and utilities would have considered it a permanent address though, thereby not being able to prove who you are to any solicitor or mortgage company.0

Hardly ever? But it does happen. As I've posted elsewhere, we did it in January this year to honour our commitment. It was very expensive, incredibly stressful and took its toll on my health.NameUnavailable said:I don't know why people say they will move into rented accommodation, perhaps they think it's easy to find somewhere for a few weeks but then in the cold light of day realise they have to move all their stuff twice, may need to pay for storage as well as deposits, new utilities, etc. etc., for a minimum of 6 months.Never trust anyone who says that, it hardly ever happens.
It really isn't something to be promised or undertaken lightly, especially in the middle of winter, in lockdown during a Global pandemic - but hey we survived.Yes - I said hardly ever, not never! I moved into rented because I decided to sell at auction.I worked as an EA for a while and if I had a £1 for every time a vendor said there was no chain above them because they'd move into rented...........2
