    There is no need to have a Spanish bank account these days.
    Just open a Wise.com euro account and use this to pay all your Spanish direct debits.

    The reason for having a proper bank account is that you get deposit protection (the Spanish equivalent to UK FSCS protection). If it doesn't matter whether you have deposit protection or not, then yes, Wise is a super alternative.

    As a UK resident, you could also consider Starling Bank's Euro account.

    Another online alternatives free of charge: Ing, openbank, bnext or n26. But depends of tax status and the availability of a spanish address to receive documents and cards.
