O/S Daily Wednesday 23 June 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Bright start with some sun trying to make an appearance - I have a wash load I'll peg out in the hope it'll dry.
DH up and gone off to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and porridge whilst on here. DS1 on annual leave. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner was gammon, egg, chips and beans. Tonight will be BBQ sausage, dumplings and beanz casserole.
Yesterday work was still manic, the issues are not being addressed and when voicing our opinion that it's not working we're told it won't stay like this and we're given a multitude of reasons as to why and how it will improve - no-one at grass roots level can see how it's going to improve. We'll see. I'm at the other office today but only for half a day.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
It's raining, as it would when I spent a good hour watering the allotment last night!
Just when I was nodding off last night the doorbell went and there was knocking at the front door, it was my next door neighbour letting me know my car windows were open and it was raining! So grateful to him but then I couldn't get back to sleep so was still awake around midnight. This covid jag certainly keeps giving!
No walking for us this week, everyone seems to be too busy as we all work in schools and there's still so much to do. We had the leaver's party yesterday, not the usual evening affair but it was really lovely and the children enjoyed themselves (the pizza was good too as they brought me a piece).
DGD (9) phoned me last night to tell me she had won the school prize for Endevour, very proud of her. Her Dad is keeping her off school for the last day and a half as covid cases are rife in their school and they don't want to be isolating during the holidays, very sensible I think, especially as the DGC are coming here on Sunday for the week.
Right, off to the shower and another manic day. Hope you are all well and see a bit of sunshine today. Take care. XX

Morning folks. Sorry that work is still difficult nmlc.Yesterday the chap 'lent' to me by my nephew was just brilliant. He arrived on time and was very cheerful even when I showed him what he faced. Two hours later he had filled ten cardboard boxes with books. 😀 Then he carried each one downstairs to my car and we went off to the CS to deliver them. Luckily the CS had a sack barrow which made things a bit faster and easier. We also did a tip run with old kitchen stuff. What a gem he turned out to be, I've booked him again for next Tuesday as there's more books to go so I've ordered ten more boxes. Thank goodness I'd gone out for tape.Whilst the books were being packed I did some gentle scanning and sorting of papers and photos. In the afternoon Alan came round for a coffee and chat, he was really pleased that he hadn't been asked to sort the books. 🤣
This morning an electrician is due to fit a new consumer unit. The present one is a mix of really old style with a couple of new style bits. I think that'll take at least two hours during which I won't be able to do any scanning so I'll be sorting out a shoe box of papers for my cousin. It's a dull grey day anyway so staying in won't be difficult. My thoughts to our missing and poorlies. Happy Wednesday to all.11 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The sun is shining, still no rain but it is now forecast for Friday, postponed from tomorrow!
I had quite a bargainous day yesterday at Boundary Mill. I earned my MSE stars mostly in the M & S Outlet with 2 tops for a fiver each, sandals for £15 (ticket price £35) and a pair of pj's £8. Then a black fine crepe floaty skirt from the ground floor for £10, ticket price £49.99. I love it and can't wait to wear it! Time ran out before hitting the underwear section unfortunately!
We had the company of youngest DGD with us! She was the last school drop and DD took her in - and came back out with her!! A child had tested positive on a lateral flow and was going to the centre for the proper test. So, in the meantime, all year 6 were being sent back home again as a precaution! We went back to DD's with her and DD tested her. Negative - so she came with us! She's most put out that this probably means no residential trip tomorrow!
Today I must address the weeds in the front garden, they have gone rampant this summer and I can't keep up to them. My lovely big fuchsia and hydrangea seem to have suffered badly with the very dry spring we had. Both way behind where they should be at this stage and just look a mess. The new (ish) next door neighbour must despair when he compares my garden to his, as he is mowing and watering twice a week and his is immaculate. Mind you, he is young and fit whereas I am not!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, poorly loved ones and woeful. DUMPLING I hope your poorly legs could be sorted once and for all. They are an ongoing worry for you. Take care one and all x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC. Hope work improves soon,Not long now Camelot, holidays are nearly here, and it's nice to see that your Dgd is doing well.Gers, you are still working away, it's good that you're getting a bit of help, it would be a nightmare if you were doing it on your own. It's a grey start here, not cold though. We are getting our hair done today, and I hope to meet up with DD at some point, and I think I'll try and get some washing out before we go to the hairdressers for 9.30.We are going to N Yorks in the caravan on Monday for a few days, so I'll start getting a few things ready..Bella sounds as if you're going to be mega busy over the next few days, hope you get everything done for completion. You haven't had much notice.Sorry to read that you're depressed Dumpling.Hope everyone else is all right, have a good Wednesday everyone and take care.12

Good morning everyone
I have woken up in a much better mood today thank goodness so today will be a brighter one. My leg feels a lot more comfortable today now I have the proper dressing on it as well.
I have a Tesco delivery today and I am planning to do some batch cooking and make some meals for the freezer for when I am too poorly to stand and cook. I have been looking up recipes in my 2 chubby cubs book and apart from putting a smile on my face when I read the descriptions, the meals look lovely too. Steve sorted out my spice and herb cupboard yesterday so at least I now have a list of things in there. I am also planning on doing a use up month where I will use all the half containers in the fridge. It is things like curry paste, harissa, chermoula paste etc that gets shoved to the back of the fridge and then lurks there until they get thrown away months later.
My eldest has been safely delivered to hospital so will wait to hear from her later on this morning how she got on.
Right, I am going to stir my stumps and get the kitchen ready for later. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx12 -
Morning all! Sunny! Although all of the plants certainly benfited from the rain, I did not. Out for lunch today to a nearby farm shop and where I would normally be rubbing my hands in glee at the goodies contained therein, I will be searching for more diet friendly fare...Not sure I'll find much except veg. Good job I like veg. I have scored myself a kind of chesterfiled/captains chair type thing on freecycle so I am a happy bunny. We'll fetch it after I've picked up OH from work. I might actually hoover the car after. When I acquired the chiminea at the dump it still had ash in it which is now all over the boot of my car. I'm not especially car proud in that I don't wash it or polish it [I pay to get that done] but it doesn't contain any rubbish and I do like the inside to be clean. That's about the extent of my day. I did finally take apart the massively big poncho/wrap I was trying to crochet so the wool bags are full again and it's one less thing hanging around. Funny isn't it? Sun comes out,I feel more like doing things...TA,well done on your canny shopping. Gers, it's all progressing well then. And nice ot hear your garden is sprucing up. Rosy, it's a bit of a nightmare...I imagine sometimes we'll be like Cuba, driving cars that should have expired thirty years ago with replacement parts made out of soda tins...thank you Brexit and pandemic...dumpling, hope your daughters results don't come back with anything major...good luck to her...Bella, good luck with the stress and huh?who?what?where?!!! of moving....Have a lovely day all if you can!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi12

Morning everyone
Just having a read while I eat my breakfast. It was lovely here yesterday, I sat outside and read my book until almost 8 last night. It's one of those that you want to finish to find out what happens, but you don't because then you won't have it to read.....The Thursday Murder Club - it's an excellent read.
I treated myself to a Kindle Fire on Amazon Prime day. I have an Ipad, but it's a really old one and has stopped updating. I couldn't stretch to a new one, but the Fire was just £40 and will do everything I need, I'm sure.
Well, I'll wish you all a good day - must get ready for work11 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
There was a long queue for water and pump out yesterday so it was lunchtime before we set off. We travelled for an hour, did one lock and then moored up before the second lock. We will move on again today. My hayfever is very bad, I gather its a bad year this year. I find I get wiped out even by the non-drowsy medication.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.12 -
Hester, my hayfever is very bad this year as well.
TA, fingers crossed DGD gets to go on her trip.
Dumpling, I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.
Just a quick one from me because we're heading to London to spend the day with Esben. I say we, Steve will be golfing with Brian this afternoon so it will be me, while Laura gets on with her studying. Only another month and she will be finished until September thank goodness.
