I had a radiator fitted and when heavy traffic passes it rattles. The engineer said that he can't fit anything  to the brackets to stop it. He isn't helpful. Does anyone have any ideas please?

Well it should be possible to use something flexible behind the brackets like a sheet of rubber to deaden vibration and stop the rattle but that would mean the radiator could move slightly if someone were to lean on it or bang against it and over a period of time with enough movement the pipe joints could come loose and start to leak.  The engineer may be fearful of being called back and blamed for the leak which is why he is not being helpful.

Also the vibrations that cause the radiator t rattle might be transmitted by the water pipes themselves.  You can get pipe clamps with a rubber lining which might help if that proved to be the problem.

Thankyou and any other suggestion welcome. I  stuffed a thick sock behind. It's another another absolute joke - you pay for a job, get left with a problem and then feel guilty because you're trying to find a solution (like your burdening the tradesman who took your hard earned cash).
  • Hello, just spotted this so probably too late. Radiator brackets come with little plastic blocks which fit into slots in the wall bracket , The radiator  drops into these plastic blocks to prevent noise transmission. If these plastic blocks are missing it is unsatisfactory work. They are often just tossed away by the usual lazy slobs doing this work.

Not all rads have the blocks  , certainly my rads never had such  .
I use thick polystyrene type foam from packaging .

I was going to suggest wedging a small piece of polystyrene foam behind the radiator, then I scrolled down I read JJ_Egan's suggestion!!
