Refund agreed but no refund

Hi all,

placed a £250 deposit down on a car, went to view and it was a complete mess so didn’t take it.

after I paid the deposit they then decided to send me a receipt saying it was non refundable.

anyway fast forward to after viewing the car they said they would refund me. Got home and I also had an email in writing that I would receive the refund.

3 days has passed and no refund as he advised refund within 3 working days. Question is where do I go from here I’m thinking charge back through Barclays. I’m hoping this is resolved on its own and it’s just late however.

with me having written confirmation of a refund where do I stand ?

The idea of a refundable deposit is a little pointless but still.

There are two timescales... 1) how long for them to process the request and 2) how long for the banks to actually move the monies about.

Step 1 only they can say and it seems they've said 3 days. Banks normally tell you step 2 is 3-5 working days but can be quicker. Normally it is quicker but really at the moment it is too soon to get worried

yes it can take an inordinate amount of time for a card refund to be processed - particularly so when payments from the card seem to be processed at lightening speed...

I paid a VW dealership £90 deposit on a car on 19 May. I changed my mind and requested a refund on 20 May. They have agreed to make the refund but it's been nearly 5 weeks and I'm still waiting for to issue my refund. I've chased them numerous times but keep getting fobbed off (ie "let me speak to my accounts dept" etc). I used a credit card to pay the deposit. Can the credit card company recover this instead?

Should really start your own thread rather than hijack someone elses

Speak to them, they can process a chargeback but how readily they'll do so varies by card issuer... they may want evidence the deposit was refundable as in principle such a thing is pointless and therefore relatively rare
