Investment ideas - how would you invest 100k?

How do you know FABG stocks will do well? There are rumours of the US bringing in legislation to restrict their power or even split them up, the EU is also getting more aggressive. They might do well and they might not.DragonCapsule said:I'd put 20k in a stock and share isa. I'd put 20k in a stocks and shares for your partner. In both isa's I'd invest in HSBC s&P500 tracker, amazon, google and facebook. Keep 20K cash. Keep 40K for next years isa allowance in a saving account. I'm assuming your going to hit your pension allowance limit so having money in stocks and shares isa is a good idea to start early. The pension allowance is dropping like a stone, so getting money into Isa's is a smart idea. Fang stocks are still going to do great in years to come and should be fairly resilient. If you fancy a punt, get some Telsa.“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”1 -
Your S and P tracker will already contain Amazon, google, Facebook as 3 of its biggest holdings.DragonCapsule said:I'd put 20k in a stock and share isa. So by buying them you are concentrating, even further, your portfolio rather than diversifying.
Why ignore all other investment opportunities to focus on the S and P 500. UK, Europe, emerging markets etc ?You may be right (or you may be wrong) that FANG stocks will continue to outperform all else but is it sensible to put all (or at least most) if your eggs in that basket?1 -
Do people still invest in gold?0

Anyways, thanks for all the advice.
Speaking of pension, is there any tool online that forecast how much you'd in an annuity based on pot size and contributions level?0 -
£300 a month x 30 years at 5% annual growth will give you around £250,000. Throw in a 3% annual increase and the total hits £350,000. If inflation is just 2% your pot will be worth around £200,000.? As the rule of thumb goes withdrawing 3% a year will be £6,000 a year. Hard work this savings game.Greymug said:Anyways, thanks for all the advice.

Some will say increase your pension payments but realistically many will struggle to do that. Average UK salary around £30,000 so £300 a month is 10%. You need to enjoy your life.
