New Sofa Donation

Hmm between my Husband and I we have made a bit of a boo boo in ordering a sofa, and got our measurements all wrong and it's way too big for our living room!!

We will try to amend or cancel our donation, but not holding out much hope.

I have decided, rather than let the company keep the sofa and our money I would like to donate it to a good cause. I understand it will need fire labels, which it should have being brand new, but how do I find somewhere that will take it?
My preference would be for it to go to a person or family in need directly rather than to a Charity for them to sell.
I am close to Bristol, Bath and Gloucester and hoping to just change delivery to their address to save any faff down the line.

Many thanks

I don't understand. What's wrong with just admitting your mistake and asking if you can change the sofa for one that is a much better size for you? That doesn't seem unreasonable to me, especially as it hasn't even been delivered yet.

However, if you decide that donation is what you really want to do, you can just google something like this -

"where to donate furniture to people in need" and lots of links come up and you can choose the one you prefer.
Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Trying to amend or cancel our order is our preferred choice, I just noticed my wording was out above.

Second option is to donate to someone in need, my Google search bought up big well known charities that would sell it, I would like to give it to someone trying to get back on their feet.

Check your local Facebook pages, often someone will be asking for free items to start up on their own.

How about the Furniture Re-cycling Project in Gloucester - they may be able to help you get in touch with specific charities who could make use of a direct donation.  See Furniture Recycling Project (frpglos.org.uk)

Salvation Army will give furniture to families in need after a fire / flood / forced move, as well as selling in some shops.

Signature removed for peace of mind
  • Thankfully and despite numerous reviews saying otherwise on the internet, they were able to cancel the order and purchase a more practical and fitting sofa.
    Cannot fault the customer service
