Laminate or tiles in kitchen?

Hello. My husband and I picked up the keys to our first home. It needs gutting and starting over. Kitchen order, electrician and plasterer booked but we’re struggling with the floor. It’s back to it’s cement base at the moment with some areas of adhesive of some type from the tile that were there before (they had to come up as a lot we’re damaged). The floor is pretty flat as far as my eye can tell. My question is what’s better a kitchen, laminate or tile? My concern with laminate is water spills, durability and longevity etc, and concern with tiles is grouting looking dirty? As first time buyers this is all new to us! Any advice much appreciated. Thanks

Tiles every time for me, having had laminate lift in the past with mopping, spills etc, although you can get waterproof laminate.
Grout will always get dirty, although Ive found grey looks the least discoloured. I've just had some limestone tiles fitted which have to be sealed, but this also seals the grout making it much less likely to get ingrained dirt in2 -
Tiles, then a great big mat to cover most of it!Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Tiles. You know laminate is going to blow with the first WM disaster!! I'd rather go with vinyl, that's how much I hate laminate.
Congratulations on your new home btw

Neither, I'd go for LVT.3

LVT here as well, feels warmer underfoot than tiles, waterproof and easy to clean... loads of colours and patterns available too. We replaced our tiled floor with black/grey slate effect LVT as part of a kitchen refurbishment last year.2

Tiles. When I gutted my kitchen I installed 3/8" (or 10mm) slate tiles with white grout. Six years on and the grout isn't dirty and I haven't broken any plates, or tiles. I put retro-fit wet UFH under them but even without it, it's fine to walk on in bare feet.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230
