Currys repair

Hi can anyone help me, I bought a Zanussi oven in 2017 then in Dec 2019 the door fell off when I opened it. Currys repaired it and the same thing happened again in May 2020, this was also covered under the warranty I had purchased. Now the door has fallen off for a third time out of warranty and currys are offering me £110 pounds to get it fixed. Should I accept the offer or expect a new oven? It’s less than four years old.

    Take it.
    Brilliant offer.

  • Some people are very quick to say it’s a brilliant offer and I’d agree if the oven cost £150 to begin with. However, if it cost £1,000 to begin with, it’s not a very good offer at all. So what was the original purchase price and is that intended for you to buy a new oven? No point spending the £110 getting this one fixed if the door is going to fall off again in 6 months - clearly there is some kind of fault with the design.

As a cash in lieu of repairs offer its not bad given almost all the zanussi doors I saw online are about £70 and are generally self fit. As its in lieu of repairs Curry's liability isnt extinguished.

As the item has been faulty before however there is the option to reject the goods at which point a settlement of a refund less circa 4 years use would be in order and so likely to be notably less than half the original purchase price (law doesn't state how use should be calculated). In this scenario Currys is entitled to the device back, if they want it is another question, but if they don't all future liability is ended as they've refunded.
  • Thanks for advice/comments, I’ve agreed to take the money and I’ve ordered a new one from AO, will not buy Zanussi again.
