Housing benefit/council tax

Options
As a couple me and my partner claim ESA support group. I get carers allowance for her and she gets standard rate pip allowance. We currently get full housing benefit and partial council tax benefit. Our daughter aged 20 was in full time education.

Now the same circumstances apply in reference to mine and my partner's claim but now our daughter still aged 20 is now in full time employment.

I did a benefit checker on entitledto and it states even though our daughter is earning full time our benefit entitlements stay the same albeit a slight change to our council tax benefit.

But reading a few different forums, some people are stating that entitledto are not reliable so we are now a bit worried incase we are doing anything wrong.. in reference to our daughter now working instead of being in education.

Could somebody please advise? Many thanks in advance.

For housing benefit because your partner is claiming Daily Living PIP then there will be no non dependant deductions.

    When you're exempt

You're exempt if you or your partner are registered blind, or if either of you get any of the following benefits:

    • personal independence payment (PIP) - daily living component

    • disability living allowance (DLA) - care component

    • attendance allowance

    • armed forces independence payment

Your housing benefit can't be reduced by non dependant deductions.

As regards to the benefit calculator you used they are only as reliable as the information you put into them.

Can't advise on the council tax because all councils have their own criteria.

  • Appreciate the help poppy many thanks 👍

Don't also forget that when you are in receipt of housing and council tax benefits, any change of circumstances should be reported to your council - as per this government link : https://www.gov.uk/housing-benefit/report-a-change-of-circumstances

In your case, as poppy12345 says, there may be no adjustments but it's always better to be safe than sorry and report everything. You can usually report changes online.
