WiFi problems

Options
For the past couple of days,I've been experiencing problems, with Wifi, upstairs. We have a sky router, and I connect to the wifi upstairs, via a Comtrend Ethernet adaptor, which is linked to a Sky wifi booster, with an ethernet cable. The wifi drops, intermitantly, both when I use the phone or tablet. It's so random, it could be down, for seconds, or minutes. I've tried resetting both the adaptor, and the booster, but no joy.

Ideally 1, 6 or 11.  But a lot depends on where you are as to which channels are "clear" as it depends on channel interference.  You can download programs (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_network_view.html for example) that show you what channels are in use by surrounding networks and you can change yours as appropriate.

Keep in mind that, if channel 6 is overcrowded, you can't use channel 5, that would just make things worse. Channel 6 is actually using channels 4 to 8, with 6 being the channel that includes the whole "spectrum". If you use another channel in that spectrum that doesn't listen to the whole 4-to-8 range, you will only be adding noise.

This of course doesn't apply with 5 GHz, provided that range is not an issue.

    Hi

    ""when I use the phone""

Master sockets don't contained Surge Protection (since 2012 as these cause issues with Fibre BroadBand).

Wire Number  3 is used to carry the ring signal, but is known to cause issues with broadband.

I never use it, as most modern phones don’t need this – if your telephone on the extension socket requires a ring capacitor, use a decent micro-filter that contains the ring capacitor.

Therefore if it is related to the telephone circuit, plugging into the MASTER test socket should nullify any wiring or micro-filter problems.

He meant that the WiFi drops on the tablet as well as on the (smart)phone.

Sorry for the typo, it's 2.4Ghz. I just tried both tablet, and smart phone, and the tablet stayed connected.Since I changed the channel, the Etherneet adaptor, is showing two green lights, whereas before, the status button was red, but the Wifi booster, isn't showing internet, which leads me to believe, it could be the booster.
