Hi, in November 2019 we booked flights with Ryanair to Rome and an apartment separately. We were unable to travel in July 2020 due to covid and was able to move to May 2021.  Due to the further lockdown we paid to move our flights to 28 June 2021 and the apartment was moved at no cost.  Since this time we had to pay for the apartment which is nonrefundable.  Rather than lose the cost of the holiday we chose to purchase covid tests and go on to Rome.  However, on Friday 18th June Italy have announced that all travellers who have been in the UK for more than 14 days have to quarantine on arrival for 5 days; the whole duration of our break.  How are we fixed for getting any of our money back?

Thanks in anticipation.

Unless you have travel insurance which covers you for this specific Covid disruption your chances of getting your money back are slim at best.

As long as the flight operates and it almost certainly will, you are not entitled to a refund on that part, and as long as the accommodation is available you are also not entitled to a refund on that part. You may be able to get a refund on your Covid tests if you have not already had the test and they offer cancellation.

Ask if you can move the apartment date. Again.

    On what basis ?

p.s. the answer's no - you can still travel, the accommodation and flights are still there for you, but you're choosing not to. As in a previous comment if you had insurance that covered this in a specific clause you may have a case but otherwise it's down to you

I totally understand why you no longer wish to travel , however the  apartment and the flights are available to you - so there is no automatic right to a refund . The apartment may agree to change the dates as a goodwill gesture but they are under no obligation to do so . Therefore since the providers are providing what you paid for ; your disinclination to travel isn’t not a reason for a valid credit card claim . As other posters have said your only option would be if you have specific travel
    insurance for this eventuality.

    Has anyone broken a contract?

This is going to be a matter for insurance if they will cover it. As the flights and accommodation are available to you, there is no other right to a refund.

Sorry if it seems there is no sympathy here, I am sympathetic, but feel it's best to stick to the facts.

    No problem.

There's no harm in asking if you can move the date again, possibly with a partial penalty, but I wouldn't recommend re-committing yourself to another date now.
