O/S Daily Monday 21 June 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone off to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and porridge whilst on here. DS1 on annual leave. DS2 settled and happy.
Cloudy overcast start to the day but not raining, but rain is forecast.
Lunch yesterday was fish and chips for the menfolk and I had sausage and chips - very good they were too - not the normal we would have on a Sunday but nice takeaway treat for a change. Tonight we have a choice of a few different things and I'll see how I feel when I get home from work.
Back to work today and I'm expecting it still to be busy, but busy makes the day pass quickly.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.It's a gloomy grey start here, dry at the moment.Gers, you are doing really well with clearing your Mum's apartment, hope you don't have much left to do.Hope your mouth is healing DP1.Enjoy your holiday Csarina, your journey must have been a nightmare.I'm meeting friends at D*bbies today, for the first time since January last year. I've seen one of them, just couldn't go to D*bbies. There are a few household jobs to do, the usual stuff. I shopped at Sains yesterday for a change, so no shopping needed.Hope everyone has a good Monday - take care folks17

Morning folks.Enjoy meeting your friends Scarlet, it's strangely exciting.DP1 - I winced at your bruised face, I hope it's not too sore today.Hugs to Camelot.Yesterday I had a very pleasant day, the first in a month. I didn't feel pressed into doing anything even though there's still loads to get through. The friend of DM came to collect the sculpture, we worked out that we had last met about 45 years ago 😱😱 I drove her home and then we walked a bit to a wee cafe in Kelvingrove Park, sat outside to drink coffee and watched the children play on the swings and slide.Once I was home I mostly scanned lots more paper which took up all of the rest of the day. The originals will be packed up and sent across to my cousin in Berlin. One of my neighbours up the hill phoned me about logs. He was about to chop down, plank and then cut up a tree and offered me a trailer load. 😀 My barn now (so I'm told) now has all the very dry wood stacked together and the unseasoned stuff in a different pile. The chap also cut off a dodgy looking branch from my tree in the back garden.Today I'll get set to again. There's the kitchen to clear. The vast majority of it is going to a local church where the volunteers equip the homeless and refugees when they move into their first home. The window cleaner is coming so I need to move various vases, I'll take them away to get wrapped up and add to the pile.Mono - I feel for you in your task.My thoughts are with our missing and poorlies. Happy Monday to all.15

Morning folks and thanks for starting us off NMLC. We have early sun but not forecast to last. The usual cloud cover is expected. Still no rain - apart from a bit of mizzle Saturday night - so I must water everywhere later as my rain dances are not achieving anything!
I am going to Sainsbury's this morning to do my own grocery shop!! First time since the pandemic kicked off all that time ago! I have compiled a long list and I feel very excited but. at the same time, I feel a bit jittery as well! I have got so used to having deliveries but I have a longing to go round picking all my own stuff! No doubt they will have moved stuff around numerous times in my absence and I'll be in there for hours tracking stuff down!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, poorly loved ones, sad or worried. GERS what lovely neighbours you have back home. Take care one and all xx

Morning all. Grey and very cold this morning, almost a frost...This is more like October than June. At least the water butts are nearly full again. I'm sitting here in my poloneck and big jumper. I've given away the last six tomato plants and a couple of cucumbers so I've decluttered the greenhouse, one more thing only containing what it should contain. I'm taking my car in this morning to have the exhaust checked, it's rattling away which means nothing good. And a couple of friends and me are all booked in for lunches out from Wednesday onwards. That's our holiday week. OH has his second jab on Thursday and then that's it for weekly plans. Oh, and fill in the opt out forms and take them to the doctors.I'll be looking for an extant T-shirt today. The duvet keeps wriggling down the duvet cover which is annoying so I'm going to sew some strips and loops to stop it doing that. I need the T-shirt to make the strips because they don't fray. And there's only two duvet covers to do. The winter one can wait.Gers, you have got lovely neighbours haven't you? From what you say there and in Glasgow, there's no shortage of epople willing to help which says nice things about you..TA, enjoy your shopping trip. It felt quite normal after a bit to be in someone else's house yesterday. I think the worry fades quite soon. Nanny hope you and Mr Fixit are nsatching what rest you can. Right, I'm off to run my hands under the tap, they're cold...Have a lovely wrapped up warm day if you can...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi13

Morning all.
Damp and overcast here, rain is forecast all day. We had a lovely day yesterday visiting DD1 and the family. We were almost scuppered at the last moment as her newest fosterchild was sent home from school on Friday with suspected covid and they were told to self isolate. Fortunately DD1 recognised his symptoms, took him to the Dr who called an ambulance, he had an asthma attack. He was released from hospital once he was stable and we visited anyway.
He's been with her a year now and settled in really well, he was a bit worried when his asthma was diagnosed as he was returned by his adoptive parents when he developed diabetes. He asked DD1 if he could stay with them, she reassured him that he was now part of the family for life.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.14 -
Morning all well i am still at the big house and will only be popping back to the other once or twice a week to keep it ticking over till all the paperwork goes through . I will be going back tomorrow as our french doors have jammed and i needed to call a locksmith but was happy to wait as its not an emergency and i am quite happy to avoid the cost of a call out at this late stage . I also have people coming to collect white goods and beds that i have managed to sell on local selling pages so that will help pay for the skip and the van hire. I need to take the signed contracts to the solicitor and fill the bins with garden rubbish as we haven't subscribed to the garden refuse service here yet .
Hester i cried when i read about the little one how frightening for him he must have been so scared he was going to be asked to move on again
DP1 hope your face is a little better
Gers you have such lovely neighbours I have good ones at the other house but not so much here they are just plain nosey

Morning all
Its pouring with rain here again and very cold Im still sat here in summer pyjamas so will need to go and get some warm clothes on after this my feet are freezing !!
Yesterday the bbq went really well it rained for most of the morning but mid afternoon the sun came out and it was glorious for a few hours, the boys seemed to really enjoy it and loved chatting about their dad, the second eldest is having really bad mental health issues due to drug taking and looks really unhealthy he has put on a vast amount of weight and has not had a haircut or beard trim for months, im trying to think of a way to subtly ask him if he wants me to take him for a haircut and beard trim, I dont want to upset him but he needs some help, my brother used to do these things for him and I think he is missing that. They were also all starving and confessed that there was only breakfast cereal in the house so I think mum and I will go and do a big shop and take it round to them. But it was lovely to see them all and they are nice lads.
Will get the dogs out this morning to the park and hopefully not get too soaked and I need to empty the dw and have a hoover through.
TA enjoy your shopping trip xx
Gers keep up the good work xx
Hope Camelot is ok xxx
Have good days all xx13 -
Hi everyone,
Hester, it beggars belief what some people will do, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I were as evil as that. Good for your DD.
Not a lot to report here, we spent most of the day watching F1, football and golf, proper Father's day TV. Steve got a card from Esben and played golf with Chris who forgot it was Father's day I think. Not that he was bothered, Like Mothering Sunday we say we'd much rather see them all as much as we do rather than having a big fuss on one day a year. I had a running joke with dad that Father's day wasn't a traditional holiday but was made up by card manufacturers so I wouldn't celebrate it.
We are having Crystal's cat for a few days at the end of the week while they go up to the Yorkshire house for a few days. They want to walk the Yorkshire three peaks with Crystal's sister and her partner.
Have a good day all.

Morning all,It's a lot cooler here today, brr. We had a nice Father's Day & had a trip to a farmers market in the morning, held in a stately home about half an hour away.We just got a few food items, and had a bite to eat from a grill stall, ate sat down on the grass admiring the lovely hill view.Hadn't been back long when DS2 turned up with the children, & beer and aftershave for DH, he got a new CD and mp3 from his fave band from DS1, so he was happy. The children wanted to play footie and frisbee on the park so I went with them for a bit. I made tea after they'd gone, we had steak with peppercorn sauce, and hm chips, apple crumble & ice cream for dessert.HH, poor lad thinking he was going to get moved on because he was ill, so sad.Csarina, hope hubby had a lovely 88th birthday, sounds like you're enjoying your break.RR glad you enjoyed your bbq, sounds like your DN could use a friendly helping hand- it must be hard to lose your Dad when you are so young.DH has just come back to take the car to the garage as they can finally do the job that needs doing. Been stuck outside nearly 6 weeksRight, better get on, hugs to those in need x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)14

Morning,.Hugs if you need one. Gers you seem to be working steadily through your Mums flat. Brilliant about the wood.
Well this is the last day of our holiday, we travel home tomorrow. Its dry, windy and rather chilly this morning, although the sun keeps trying to break through.
We went out for lunch yesterday, a nice meal, very good staff, they sang 'Happy birthday' to DB and as it was fathers day all the chaps in the restaurant got a wee fathers day present.
We had decided to have a quiet day, so came back to our 'little cabin' read and had a muffin for supper and watched TV in bed.
This morning we are off to Yarmouth, I need to fill the car up with fuel ready for the journey back via some friends. We may well take a walk on the beach, although the wind is a bit fierce.
We are eating in tonight, have a table book for 6pm.12
