Marcus on weekends

Has anyone with a Marcus savings account got experience of transferring money on weekends and how long it takes it appear in your linked account?

I’m transferring cash out so I can pay my house deposit tomorrow so I took
out £10K at about 6pm yesterday. This was following a £20k transaction earlier in the week.

It’s still not in my linked account & I’m really freaking out and can’t contact anyone at Marcus until tomorrow.

I know they say transactions take longer at weekends… but how much longer?

When you login does the £10K show as paid out?
IIRC Marcus process the outward payment on weekend days but the receiving bank may not show the receipt until the Monday.

Yes, it’s no longer in my Marcus account and shows as a withdrawal

Weekday withdrawals are almost instant, weekends usually take a little longer.
The longest was around a couple of hours before showing in the linked account.

I did £600 yesterday into Santander and it was instant.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)
  • I've done Marcus to Santander and I find it usually takes a few minutes, perhaps 10 minutes at weekends.

Weekends is when banks conduct maintenance on their systems. Money will arrive tomorrow at the latest.

Too late now but unnecessarily risky to rely on immediate access for funds that are this important, given Marcus's published 'next business day' service level (which could technically be Tuesday, as the next business day after the first business day, which will be Monday), as per https://www.marcus.co.uk/uk/en/public-site/help#transfers

Payments from your Marcus account to your linked account are usually made within two hours and at the latest by the end of the following business day.

If this doesn’t happen, it might be because we are checking the payment as we think your account is at risk of fraud or unauthorised use. It might also be because allowing the payment through would cause us to breach a law or regulation. Please also be aware that payments over the weekend may take longer because this is when we carry out regular maintenance.

Hopefully the funds arrived okay in the end but this is a lesson not to leave important transfers until the last minute. £10k at 0.4% costs about 11p per day in lost interest. To my mind it’s better to get it to your solicitor 3 or 4 days before completion to keep the stress levels from going into overdrive.

I was in a similar situation last year, albeit with Al Rayan, and had to transfer over a few days. It was strange to have a fairly large sum in my current account earning nothing but it was a stressful enough time and I took some comfort in the finances being sorted. I ended up paying the solicitor a couple of days earlier than they requested. I doubt that this cost me more than about £3.

It is worth avoiding making any payments out of Marcus over the weekend.  On Sunday i moved some cash out of my Marcus account, and it did not hit until end of day on Monday.  I called and they said payments on weekends usually take longer. But during workdays they will be paid by faster payments within 2 hours.  So I made another payment on Monday morning and it arrived in my current account immediately - several hours before the Sunday payment did.  So anyone who is with Marcus - avoid making any payments on weekends and just wait for Monday morning instead if you want it to go by faster payments.
