Possible to make use of a loft without conversion?

Options
I cannot afford a loft conversion but would like to make some use of the space. I know I couldn't do too much without adding weight and needing expensive strengthening, but surely just some simple insulation and a partial floor just as people have to walk around their storage loft. I mean people store lots of stuff in their lofts without the house falling down.

What I had in mind was one or two velux windows and a telescope/computer. Maybe even a place to work on my model aircraft too.

Any advice?

I agree, it the what you don't know that is the problem here.

Say you (or the next owner) were to convert it into habitable space at some point in the future, any changes you make now should take that into account so it might mean a little additional investment now to save re-doing it then. Lack of foresight is an expensive mistake I have made once in the last 4 weeks and I don't intent to repeat any time soon.

It all depends on what you want from the loft space. You can put in a loft ladder and board it out, for storage or a work room. But without building control approval, it's not a "habitable" room. So it couldn't be a bedroom.

You might need planning permission for windows.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

I paid £250 to have the loft boarded. Plenty of storage space now.

I probably wouldnt put a computer in a loft, even with a bit of insulation in there. Imagine its still more humid especially with patrial floor. It'll likely be hot in summer and cold in winter unless done "properly"
