Proof of Postage with Franked Mail?

Just a quick question please!

Does anyone know if I can get my post franked (at work) then taken to the local post office to get proof of postage slips for each letter/parcel??

Thanks!!

thats not a problem , just fill in a proof of posting form from the post office and there stamp it for you.

I always keep a few handy just incase a stamp happens to fall off an envelope that hasnt been marked! x

Don't expect much of a welcome, as they are receiving no revenue from the sale, but still having to spend time and effort stamping your PoP's. It's the same as using smartstamp/paypal postage labels - the Post Office still have to deal with the admin, yet earn nothing from it either.

Buying stamps and postage from the Post Office means they get a small percentage of the sale price, thus helping towards their longer term survival.

I thought franked mail had to be sent seperately? It certainly did wherever I worked..everything that went franked had to go in a special collection box not a standard post box and if we had anything to go after the post room finished then we had to use a postage stamp and post it ourselves.

Also, I am concerned at the use of an employers money to send your ebay items. There is not a single place I ever worked that would not consider this gross misconduct and sack an employee on the spot for theft. Yes I know it is none of my business, but we have had threads on here where buyers receiving 'franked mail' with a company logo have in fact contacted that company to see if the postage was used with permission, it just annoys some people. If I received franked post with a private company logo I would just consider the seller a bit shady and leave it at that, but if any seller was foolish enough to use franking from a public organisation like a school or the NHS then yes I would contact the company to make sure it was legit as it would be my taxes paying for it.

  • Oops, I send a few odd parcels from Ebay through work (usually after a good clearout) so hope people dont think I'm shady.

I live semi-rural and we have no local post office so far easier to take into work and post from there. Receptionist is great and does proof of postage with the Royal Mail man who collects and I have never had any problems. I always pay for the postage and the money just gets used to buy stamps - covers when the franking machine is running low or other staff want to buy stamps for cards etc.

Except of course to the accountants who should be removing any element of postal expenses paid for by an employee as to claim business expenses which have been reimbursed would of course be very bad (stern voice there).

Obviously though where an employee is legitimately using office franking there is no problem at all as should a buyer phone up the emplyer to check out of devilment.

I have had franked post from schools, hospitals and even government departments:eek:

It's strange how people see posting from work as 'a perk'; if the employer isn't aware of it then it's theft, just like the stationery and pens/pencils etc.. Or even like being online during working hours.....:D

There was a story a couple of years back, but I can't find it here so I must have read it somewhere else, about franking mail. If I remember correctly the brief scenario was that buyer had received an item and was unhappy (it was a fake or dodgy somehow, don't remember the details), but seller basically said hard luck. Buyer then realised item was sent in a franked envelope, tracked down employer who was something like a firm of solicitors and explained the position.

It all turned out rather nasty for the seller at work..but that's all I remember. I suppose I ought to go and check on snopes in case this was an urban myth story I picked up from somewhere.
