Removal firm or buy new stuff

Hi all. We are soon to move 300 miles. Only 2 of us. Been quoted over £3000 for a removal firm. Is it worth just buying new stuff? Sell old stuff? Has anyone done this? Been quoted £300 to hire a van for the weekend to take vital stuff. Thanks for any advice /experiences

That sounds at the expensive end of the price spectrum. But selling old stuff and buying new will be an absolute ordeal. Moving will have enough headaches without adding to them. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker1

Can you find a storage facility at this end for the rest of your stuff and gradually move it up, maybe over 3 months. £3k is huge.1

That does sound at the high end, although you are going a distance. Presumably that includes packing too?I thought about this when I received my quote but as @zagubov said we felt the selling aspect of dealing with different people for different items etc at this stage will probably add to the stress. We’ve decided to put stuff in storage with the movers. If anything doesn’t fit in the new place (if we ever finally move and find somewhere) we may look at selling/giving to charity then.
But until then the least headache the better.2
