with out being to political, I need to settle a argument between my father and my sister.(they never did get on). he says we shouldn't be play in the european championship, because we are no longer in europe. my sister says we are still part of europe, but not as far as politics and trade goes. what do you think.
We are still on the continent of Europe, we just left a political union of some Euro states. last time I checked Russia were in Europe and not the EU :)

The OP does not say whereabouts in the Kingdom he and his Dad identify with, but 3 of four Nations within the Kingdom are not now in the EUROs.  Does that make the OP's Dad any happier?

There 55 countries in UEFA and only 27/28 in the EU so there is no alignment

The UK is in Europe. We have left the EU, but it’s not an EU championship.

We’re not alone in this. Ukraine, Switzerland and Norway aren’t in the EU either, but are in the competition.

Thanks. but I shall not attempt to impress the above on my father. what he says is allways right, even when he's wrong. as he often is actually!

Maybe you should impress on  your Father that he's wrong.
Regardless of what he says or thinks.
And show him how he's wrong.
If you don't you will never 'settle a argument between my father and my sister'.
Or show him this thread that shows he doesn't understand the difference between Europe and the European Union.

Or put your fingers in your ears and go 'La La La La' when he talks rubbish.
Actually, that advice would be better addressed to your sister.

Indeed, we are not alone. there are in fact two of us. england and italy. lets hope england can at least be champions of something once again. as it should be.
