HELP WITH WIFI DEVOLO BOOSTER PLEASEEEEE

My house is 1902 and very long with my daughters bedroom at the back. Please can anyone help me with a tech problem regarding a Devolo booster which is plugged into my virgin rooter please? The lights on the Devolo keep going to red, trying to connect every 2/3 mins to the other Devolo upstairs but there is nothing wrong with the internet. As i'm not a techie person I am getting

I struggled with poor WiFi coverage from various Virgin Media hubs over the years. Finally fixed it by purchasing a separate router and putting the VM hub into modem only mode. Decent 5GHz and 2.4GHz WiFi all over the house and garden now.
That's with an Asus RT-AC68U router purchased from Amazon because I knew I could easily return it if it didn't fix the issue. Didn't need to.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. First I would suggest looking at your existing equipment to see if there is an easy fix.
Do the two Devolo units work as expected if they are plugged into sockets near each other, like in the same room?
Is either one plugged into an extension socket with a surge suppressor or other protection built in? If so, try without using the extension.
If the problem only arises when they are at each end of the house, are the circuits they are plugged in to on the same circuit breaker or fuse in the house, or are they on separate ones, as that can cause problems.
Does the equipment you want to connect by WiFi have an adapter capable of 5GHz in it, as well as 2.4GHz, and does the Devolo kit support 5GHz too? 5GHz generally will give a better connection, although it may have a lesser range than 2.4GHz.
Did you set up the equipment initially or somebody else? Has it ever worked reliably?
What devices do you need to connect at the other end? Is WiFi essential there, or will a cable do?
If you do decide to look at a separate router, it needs connecting to the Virgin hub by cable supporting gigabit throughput. You can buy such cables of various lengths up to 100 metres, so if you can run a cable from your Virgin hub to a new router in a more central location in the house, that could help too. I assume the VIrgin Hub cannot easily be moved.Apologies, lots of questions, and I have no experience with the kit you mention, but there are doubtless people on here who can offer useful advice.

Don't buy a separate router, what you need is an access point. A second router will cause you all sort of issues because you will be effectively running two separate networks.

Can you get good extension leads that will be as good as plugging into mains itself? When they installed virgin the cable is short and sits under front room window and not in a central point at all. Thank you again I will try everything you have said

Forget about the extension leads. That comment was made before I knew what your kit was capable of. It doesn't use "powerline" networking, so it doesn't matter where it gets its power from. The base and satellite unit communicate over the 5GHz band and that may be your problem. Can you try moving them closer to each other to see if the error goes away? Which LED is showing red and/or is flashing, and is it on the base or satellite unit?Even just repositioning the base or satellite unit may help. Try to put them so that the minimum number of walls or other obstacles are between the units.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
