Dates - The Money Saving Expert Way

thought i'd start a topic, hope its in the right place!

Well I and I'm sure others would like all your ideas for innovative dates. Now anyone can go and blow £££s on a date, but thats not the money saving expert way is it!

So would like to hear your suggestions/stories .. etc. Obviously no-one would be impressed by a cheap skate however i'm sure both guys and girls would be impressed by something original other than dinner/drinks etc.

Hope this disussion will help all those out there that struggle for ideas!

  • I'm gonna start this discussion of with the 'blind date envelope' idea. This invloves putting suggestions into envelopes and allowing your date to choose....

For example a day time meet the date could chose from envelopes with
    -crazy golf
    -zoo visit
    -dance lessons

then later on chose from 3 for meal ideas chinese/italian/tai

could even have three for the end of the night - all with give a good night kiss in!

First of all you may buy her a bunch of roses or other plowers. She will be really impressed. Not it the shops but through wholesalers ( special shops). It will be rather cheap.
i remembered one day my ex-boyfriend wanted to impress me It was a surprise and till the last minute i didn't know where we were going me and made a fantastic river trip on a boat. I was at the wheel.... There were only he and i,the moon, the stars,a light wind and a romantic music.

She may not be impressed by the flowers. I'd think, hmmm, what am i going to do with these flowers all night, and will i forget them and/or leave them on the tube.

    Not all women like flowers.

Of course it also depends if its a date with someone you have known/dated for ages or a first date? there are loads of cheap ideas around (i usually tend to go to weatherspoons pubs over other ones as far cheaper) but dragging someone for a walk in the park or a picnic in the park on a cold day to save cash is not sexy.

Orange 2/1 Wednesdays at the cinema could be good?

Hmm. I've recently discovered that the modern concept of romantic love, that spawns so many chick-flicks and throwaway paperback holiday reads, has not been around since time immemorial. It's actually a descendent of the medieval concept of "courtly love" - you know, stories like Lancelot and Guinevere, knights in shining armour and all that.

The idea of courtly love is that in a highly feudal, class-ridden society, women can derive status simply by being the inspiration for the men who fancy them. The woman is never available, because she's already married to a man of high rank, however, her admirer has to try and prove he's better than the husband she already has. He does this by smartening himself up, offering big romantic gestures, and by fighting over her with other men.

The belief that romantic love is a good thing seems to have permeated our culture very deeply, despite the best efforts of the medieval churches. Have you ever wondered why we address crowds as "ladies and gentlemen", and not "lords and gentlewomen"?

Of course, women love this to bits, but men don't like at all. It pitches men against each other, and seeks to undermine their natural need for fellowship. But it doesn't work. Men need to keep in with a crowd - and if they don't, they will eventually go crazy. If women don't like that - that's tough, because that's just the way men are.

Some men get their fellowship from work or college, some from their mates down the pub, some from football, some from the gym, some from religious institutions, and some from the gay bar. But all men need it. Men simply cannot compete with their peers for a lady, no matter what romantic novels might tell you - because if they do, they risk being ejected from their peer group - which is usually much worse for a man than not winning over the woman he fancies.

And that's why romantic novels and chick flicks bore us, or rub us up the wrong way.

So my advice to single men is to bear this in mind when they go dating. Don't try to live up to romantic ideals. Instead, you should find out whether you can level with your date or not. If you can't, then you need to let her know sooner rather than later, before it gets serious, and keep on looking.

So it's a good idea to take her to something that you're interested in. And don't spend that much more money on it than you would do if you went on your own - or with your mates. She's got to impress you as much as you have to impress her. Don't forget that.

Oh yeah - and read a translation of Don Quixote by Cervantes sometime. Or get a movie of it out of your video library. Hey - if you're really brave, you could even watch it with your date - but I suggest it's better to watch it on your own, and do something else with your date. :)

    Hi all.
"Not every women like flowers" - may be. But in my life it always works. Perhaps the matter is - my skill to make such a present...
Do no think directly about money! If she or he is worthy of your attention and heart of course. Your careful partner will help you to save your money... From your side the main aim is to show him/her your attention completelly.
And whatever you do - always try to be yourself, not to copy somebody! Because every of us is unique person and has it's own magnificent abilities. The goal is only to show them truly. Concrete situation doesn't matter! :rotfl:
