Paying more than balance

I have a Tesco credit card which has a £4500 limit and has a balance of £400 and after a large purchase the available credit is now £300.
I have another purchase I wish to make which is £1000 and tried to pay £1000 to my card but it will only let me make a payment of £400, the balance.
Is there any way around this restriction?

You will have to wait until the large purchase appears as a cleared transaction.

How did you try to pay? You can always send £1000 to your card by faster payments using the generic sort code / account no and your long card number as the reference. It may put you into positive balance which is most likely against the T&C though.0
