Can someone help pleas i am at my witts end, i have a bank account in spain which i used for various reasons to do with property. I am a non resident, i live in the uk. They have started charging extortionate fees and therefore need to close this account. I no longer require this account whatsoever but they have told me it can only be done in the branch, now obviously due to travel restrictions and the fact i now no longer will be going to that area where the account is held it’s going to end up costing me thousands probably just to fly there to close it and come back again in the meantime racking up fee after fee. Any ideas? Ive phoned emailed and complained!

Do they offer a current account switch service, similar to our CASS, in Spain? If so, there's an outside chance you may be able to find a fee-free account you are able to open as a non-resident (and non-EU citizen?), and then switch your Caixa account into it.
Other than that, you seem to have exhausted your options already with the bank. They may or may not have the equivalent of the FOS to whom you might be able to escalate matters.
You might also get better advice in a "Brits in Spain" forum, which I am sure exists somewhere.0 -
Spanish banks are a law into themselves.
Unfortunately you will have to go into a branch to close the account.
A switch service ?? 😂😂
If you want a fee free Spanish bank account look at a Cajamar Wefferent account.
BUT as a non resident you will have to go to a branch to open it.
Or do away with your Spanish bank account altogether & open a Wise.comeuro account for all your Spanish direct debits.0 -
