Landscape gardener not started job yet

Hello, I wonder if you can help me? On 16 April I got a quote from a landscape gardener to turf my front garden. I was quoted £1100 and the job would be done by the middle of May. I paid £600 upfront to secure the job on 18 April.

It is now 18 June and still no work has been done. I have had to contact them every week as there communication is non existent!
Each reply I have received is the same message, "We'll get to your garden this week"

I feel I am being messed about and would like to cancel the job. Could anyone tell me what rights I have in getting my £600 deposit back?

Thank you in advance

First, do you have any form of written agreement with them and how did you pay, do you have a receipt from them if you paid in cash?
  • I paid by bank transfer. I didn't get an actual agreement in writing but I have emails stating what will be done and that the job will be done by middle of MayMattMattMattUK said:

you have basically two options: keep waiting / nagging or cancel, ask for money back and if they refuse go to small claims court.

I would be inclined to send a LBA letter before action/claim see if it shakes them up .

Considering how hot and dry it has been recently it could have been difficult to get a lawn to take.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

    Cancel if you possibly can.
Now is the absolute worst time of year to lay lawn turf.
Unless you water it constantly & properly you will never get it to take.
