VPN and working from home dilemma
Comments

I was with sky, and a good few years ago, before broadbandshield. They didn't block vpn as such, but did severely limit the traffic to the vpn company's server ip to less than dialup, so you could surf, but could not watch films or other dynamic media. I did follow the issue up with Sky, and because I was a fairly heavy user compared to most in those days (early video stream adopter), they were not interested, probably because it cut into their film market
However most work businesses will have their own vpn setup, and you run your employer's vpn software, which should work fine. I left Sky and even though they are cheaper than my current one, I would not go back.0 -
Are you using UDP or TCP on the VPN? I get much faster speeds using TCP, check the config and compare each to see which performs better.0

It is a corporate VPN. The OPs son is not going to be able to choose which protocol is uses.
FWIW TCP is a bad idea for OpenVPN.

UDP should be faster.
A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?1 -
