Stamp Duty help - annexe, multiple dwelling relief

Hi,
we’ve recently purchased our family home. We’ve had some letters from solicitors claiming we may have overpaid on stamp duty as the property has an annexe. The annexe was previous owners mother. It is attached to the main property, has a door separated within, bedroom, lounge, kitchen and bathroom. Seperate boiler and electrics.
Any ideas if this is correct and we could retrospectively claim the multiple dwelling relief?
appreciate any help
