Any reason for going with Priv over Churchill given the later was cheaper and had LE cover included? They are two brands of the same insurer after all.
Hopefully better customer service in the event of any issues.

My daughter 17 passed her test in May; Fabia 1.2 Monte Carlo Estate and this is what we pay (Privilege)  £477 with no black box. Both parents as named drivers.

I bit their hand off, after tripled checking the quote.

    Went via the meerkats.

    That's got to be TFPT?
I'm in one of the lowest risk areas in Britain and we're a lot more fully comp.
I did wonder if fully comp was worth it when her car is o ly worth around £4k, but went with it.

Other option is to use your policy with her as named main driver
    I'm not sure I follow.
If you're putting someone else on your insurance, they can't be a main driver.

I don't think there is much difference between fully comp and TPFT. It's all about the damage they do to other people and property not the value of their own. We have always paid about £600 without a black box. I have a feeling the biggest factor in the differences is the area you live in. I know with LV you had to nominate the main driver. It was £30 extra for them to be the main driver.

Where on earth would this poster live that's it's so hugely cheaper than anywhere else, the Hebrides?
Literally next to no chance of hitting anyone else or the car being nicked?
I've never, ever, see such cheap insurance for a new driver, it's astounding.

I'm getting a bit lost here.
This suggests you're putting your child on your insurance.
Our insurance cost  is for her own car and is in her own name.
She's not allowed to drive any other car.

New or young? Our insurance was only a little more than that when the Mrs passed her test and that was for a 4.7L Merc (it did look funny with the L plates on before)... she wasnt 17 though.

Back in my day it was the identical staff that dealt with claims for the DL Priv and Churchill brands and whilst the MD of Priv had wanted to carve it out more the business was heading in the other direction. After the restructure to be product rather than brand centric there was the talk of merging the sales and service staff too.

Just because you speak to the same person doesnt mean that calls arent prioritised in the queue or advisors given more discretion etc... know plenty of white labelers that offer these options to their partners... but DLG weren't doing such things at the time (maybe they do now).

Unless DLG has changed its strategy its almost certainly not TPFT or TPO as these were both priced hire than Comp for most customer segments

We tend to have 'pool' cars rather than individual cars. So I am the owner and keeper. The 17 year old isn't earning their own no claims bonus. When I insure it I really don't know who the main driver would be. I just paid the £30 so I could never be accused of fronting. I don't think the risk to the insurer is any different unless they are more careful driving someone else's car!

The title of the thread gives a clue that I wasn't speaking about older new drivers.

I couldn't believe it when I phoned the insurer after they passed their test. I was going to tell them they had made a mistake but thought better of it. Just waited to get emailed the documents, and then checked every single detail was correct before letting them drive.
