Sorry, did you make your order from the UK to Florida and you never had to go to your local court?

Before he left, how was he paying, CMS or family court or?

So if you never had an order made until June 2021, did the court in Florida backdate it to before that date, even though it was before they ever had any dealing with it?

MEBC told me over and over that they could not backdate, even though the country were saying they can to me because I use to phone them and they’d say get a new order made in England, but the courts here knew nothing about REMO and it was draining  asking for a variation/motion, because they never had a clue.

im surprised he’s not paying if it’s through the court and they’re strict over there I thought with the police.
I filed Via MEBC who sent the application to the USA

He never lived in the UK, he has always lived in the USA

Yes Florida can back date i think its 35 months from the date the non custodial parent is served. They didnt at first as they state i didnt request it but they overlooked a check box on the form and corrected it.

A new order was proposed in June with the correct salary used, and the back support added.
I have yet to receive the granted order. It was supposed to be made final in July, MEBC emailed me this week and the message from Florida is they would make the order final in September. They are following a 90 day Hague convention rule between steps (  havent heard of this before i think they are misinterpreting something)

So no, he is not paying.
He stated he made three payment in June/July at the old rate but Florida said if they have payments they would send to MEBC and MEBC say they havent had any.

    It is beyond draining
  • Strange how you were not made to go to court here in the UK to make  the UK order, then MEBC send to the country, and they make their version, following their rates, they said.

Mine took exactly 9 mths for the country to make and issue the order and start collecting, but only from the date they made the order, first payments sent to MEBC who then sent to me.

THEN I had to prove I had not received anything from him for the 9 mths it took them to make it. Exhausting.
  • Hi
My name is Joy and I have read your posts about REMO.

I have had quite a bit of experience of this government organisation over the years and I give advice through a single parent charity called Single Parent Support And Advice Services.  I also have my own Facebook page and write about this on LinkedIn.  I am always keen to hear what parents have to say about this service.

Unfortunately, the service they provide is inconsistent - some people are happy with the way and speed with which their case has been processed, whilst for others it is beyond frustrating.  Even more so when the initial idea to obtain child maintenance from a non resident parent is admirable and free of charge.

Recently, two MBECs have closed down - the one in Wales and Greater London - and everything takes place in Bury St. Edmunds in England. This is a step backward in my opinion and it appears REMO and the MBECs have become less accountable.  There is now a waiting time of 6 months.

I made a complaint about REMO and my local court (before MBECs were invented) a number of years ago and when I didn't receive a satisfactory enough reply, I put in an application to the Parliamentary Ombudsman.  They found in my favour and said that the service provided was not open and accountable. It was a scathing report. It seems that they are still not getting it right and I'm sad to read that.

I would urge anyone, if they have the energy, to complain about the service.  I appreciate that this is just another thing to think about when you are working hard as a single parent.
