Ebay refund grumble

My losses in the post are one in several hundred and I send everything, regardless of value, standard first class. Even if I have a loss that is not covered, that is easily paid for by the signed for extra costs I have not paid.I could save more by using second class, but customers seem to appreciate first class being used so I hope that I make extra sales on the strength of this. These are website sales rather than Ebay - maybe you have to be more careful if you are selling certain items where there is more risk.

Don't worry. I have got my answer. I posted a parcel today using only some of my stamps and rest I purchased the horizon label or whatever they call it. I got a POP with tracking details. Thank you for that tip - I will be doing that from now on!kalsha said:
Can I double check on this please? So if you use part of your own stamps and part of post office label, do you get ordinary POP or one with the tracking number. At the moment I am using up all my stamps to make up £3.20 and all I get is a POP with no tracking number.djp64 said:
I do this all the time for parcels. For small parcels I put on stamps to the value of £2.58 (I bought a load of first class large letter stamps about 5 years ago when they were still around 70p) and then my Post Office print a label for the difference (to make up the full second class cost). I get a receipt with the reference number that can be used to evidence delivery.1 -
So whats the outcome....if the PO cashier making up the postage total adds actual real stamps rather than a Horizon Label .....?
Would the small parcel or large letter still get POP with tracking ?
Either way Im going to suggest to the cashier that I would prefer a horizon label rather than using real stamps !
Looking at wikipedia the Horizon label has a bar code .

I'm back with an update that answers kalsha's last query. I spent what seemed like ages putting in my claim to Royal Mail via online claim form. However, POP didn't have a tracking no. only a session number so kept getting an error message when trying to send form. Finally decided to phone Royal Mail for advice & it turns out that because you don't get a tracking no. when using regular postage stamps, you can now only make a claim via post, first getting a claim form from the post office to fill out & send evidence of value of lost item.
Yes kalsha, it appears you can use part postage stamps & make up the cost with a postage label bought at the post office. I think in future I'll send small parcels with £2.20 of stamps I need to use up, & have the post office put a £1 label on when sending items in the future, to ensure I get a tracking no.
Just my luck that when I sent the missing item I had two other parcels that I paid postage for at the post office & it was the one with stamps that got lost. Fortunately I've had very little go missing in the post though I have to say.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.1 -
Sufficient to bite you on the backside. In the beginning I too was very trusting (around 20 years ago). Then one day had an issue with a buyer who appeared extremely reputable (based on Ebay feedback). To see the item listed by the same buyer a month later for sale on Ebay was galling. Over the years transacted over 5 figures of Ebay transactions. Before the ever increasing fees drove me away.martindow said:Thrugelmir said:As a seller you take your chance. Sorry for the delay in replying. If I use part own / part PO label I get the POP with the tracking number that can be used to evidence deliverykalsha said:
