Moving rentals with poor credit score

Hello,

Just wondered if anyone has managed to get a new rented place with a poor credit score? I went bankrupt in 2018 and my husband DRo jan 2019 so these will still stay on file until may 22 and jan 23.

I do love my rented house that we have rented for the last 10 years, my girls share the big room and we have the small room. But I am accidently pregnant and thinking at some point we will need a 3 bedroom property but worried about someone actually accepting us.

Work wise I earn just under 2 K a month (when I'm not on mat leave) and my husband is on ESA/PIP and doesnt work.

Any success stories?! I am trying to save up money now, we have 4K and I have one credit card with 1,000 on left to pay. Husband has ho debts.

Thanks.

  • Anything adverse like that will stay on your file for 6 years not 4.

I would be open and honest with the LE, explain your circumstances and provide proof you have funds to cover X months rent with the £4k.

We've been in a similar prediciment 5 years ago (we had poor credit, paid it all off and we are now going through my first house purchase!). We used OpenRent, as you liaise with the landlord directly and, whilst most landlords will credit check you, speaking with the landlord and explaining your situation may lead to a better outcome. The real challenge at the moment is the rental and housing market is crazy busy, so you will have some competition so you'll need to be prompt in your enquiries. Good luck :)
