I don’t mind it… but it looks a bit homemade. It has such blatant alignment and horizontal scrolling issues. It just screams poorly adjusted generic template.

They could increase the room used for the actual threads by 1/3 if they got rid of the unnecessary stuff on the left side - which could easily be added to a line on the top of the page (it would fit in the bar with "MSE forum") if any of it was really wanted4

Just too much wasted space.
- If I maximise the browser window, the content doesn't expand accordingly.
- The user info block to the left of each post is too big, but nobody has an avatar, I don't need to be told they're a "Forumite", who cares about the silly badges there, and it pads out short posts with whitespace...
- The "Quote" & "Comp-liment" (sic) block under the post can be as big as the post itself.
- The menu panels are in a larger text that users posts.
Very poor UX.

It's not so much "wasted space", that big gap on the left hand side, you're seeing because you've scrolled down beyond the menu in that space. I do think that menu is pointless so it shouldn't be there, but that's a different discussion.
In regards to the quoted post below. The Avatar features are helpful to users in the other areas of the forum who are actually looking for advice or help with financial issues. It's not so relevant in the competition forums.- The user info block to the left of each post is too big, but nobody has an avatar, I don't need to be told they're a "Forumite", who cares about the silly badges there, and it pads out short posts with whitespace...

I think it might take me a little time to get used to it, but I also quite like it. It's more vibrant, and, perhaps, easier to see where to click for stuff. But I agree that there is too much wasted space on the left, and I'm not talking about politics when I say that.
Does everyone know about their feedback form on the new layout? Might be worth commenting there too? Linky:

I’m the same as Lynsey89, if the comp is one line I can’t get into it, it just changes the little flag red2019 wins: Meal at Five Guys2

Too small for eyesight problems and lot of wasted space to the side.1

Im pretty sure most of us go straight to "recent posts", this now takes 2 clicks, unless your happy with just 5.1

It's the left hand menu that is shoving everything to the right, and causing too much space to be taken up, I dislike. The *MAIN* important part of the forums, is the forum content itself - the listing with thread titles and such (the thread title being THE most important thing on the thread listing pages)... yet that now only gets 29% of all the screen space, while the PADDING - whitespace - uses OVER 51%, largely because of that (really un-necessary, should be a drop down or a "top horizontal bar) left-hand menu.
I actually like the colours, and the general design - just not the use of space, it makes reading the thread titles hard, which is priority 1, so it's hard to sound too positive about the overall design, because design is meant to make function work better, not worse.
