Fixtures and fittings - cost to purchase

Is it normal for sellers to offer things for ££  in the fixtures and fittings form? We just received ours back today and some stuff is being sold for say £50, 80, 150 etc.

We just said sfuff we'd take sfuff we'd leave simples. E. G. New place has a dishwasher so we said we'd leave ours, we didn't ask for say £100 for it.

For context the property is £790k so not super cheap!

It's not the normal but far from unusual.

Yep. My sellers offered to leave their dishwasher for £100 and couch for £75 for money. I took the dishwasher but didn't want their couch.
  • Some people want to try and sell things they may not need rather than just leave it. Usually its when things are a decent spec or functions well in its place. An example we had was a console table in our hallway, our buyer said it looks really good there so we added it to the F&F list with a price which she agreed on. She paid us separately rather than through the payment to solicitor.

Our seller did this with a few items - range cooker and a couple of others. Not for curtains, matching cushions, lamp shades a bed base and so on. It was around 10% of price for a new replacement IIRC.
So we did similar to our buyer with our over.

Doing it thus means that there's no stamp duty on the value of the F&F making the overall purchase cheaper.

My seller wanted £175 for her washing machine and I asked my solicitor to find out the age/make/model.  The seller rang me about something else and during the conversation said she inherited it when she purchased in 2012 and I was welcome to it for free.  Unbelievable to try to charge that for something that old, and now I'm here using it, it pongs to high heaven. Dishwasher was free and that's all broken inside, fridge freezer makes some horrible noises.  Wish I'd said no to it all.

Interesting, I guess I wasn't bothered about most stuff I said we'd leave like lampshades etc as I figured we'd get new ones so may help our ftbs getting our gaff or they may chuck them. I suppose I may have felt differently if we had lots of decent stuff.

I had to Google what a Pergola was :0

Tbh I think dishwasher wise I'd rather it stay and be free than have the hassle of having to get rid of it!

Makes more sense now though :)

You can also make your offer contingent upon such things. For example mine was contingent upon all blinds and curtains, existing light fittings (eg no replacing with a £2.50 Wickes value fitment)  and the tumble dryer in garage being included  (and the freezer in garage but they didnt have one LOL, oopsy)

That makes sense, but with the timescales we had to offer in that sort of granularity wasnt possible unfortunately!

We left blinds and light fittings in old house but took curtains and lampshades so we had stuff to start off in new house with and I’d do same again.

All our kitchen appliances were integrated so left them and new house all integrated too although we replaced washing machine straight away as it was disgusting.

We didn’t charge extra and weren’t charged extra either. I’d do same next time and just politely decline anything vendor wanted to charge for as I’d most likely want to change it anyway once we were there.
  • It's all probably stuff they don't want to take anyway. If you say no then they either have to remove it all or politely ask if they can leave it behind.......
