You could buy a car for £10k and break down in a month's time and end up with a repair bill the next week for £600. You could also spend £200 on a car and not have a problem for a year. All luck really. In the first year all my FREE £0 car has needed to get it through the MOT is rear exhaust, and brake pipe. It has never broken down and is very reliable. I am doing my best to maintain the car which isn't free, but neither is maintaining/servicing a £10k car. Previous owner had it destined for the scrap.
I don't understand this old car = cheap, crap, unreliable, expensive repair bills, dangerous, and uncomfortable business. Chances are most of the people who say cheap cars are crap have never owned or considered one. Consider this rich people showing off your cars, in 14 years your current car if it's a run of the mill ford, peugot, citroen etc will probably be worth less than £1000 and it won't be all that much different then than it is now.
I think the biggest problem with cheap cars is people can't be bothered looking after them or servicing them, which is a shame.0 -
I agree with those recommending Skoda. They are reliable, economical, perform well in safety tests, have one of the highest owner satisfaction ratings in surveys and they are cheap to buy because there is a pointless and misinformed snobbery surrounding the badge.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

As said above something no one wants would be a good road to go down. Hyundais and Daewoos certainly fit fall into that catagory. Found these on Autotrader.

Sorry, have been away for a couple of days so only just seen your post. I am in West Yorkshire but willing to travel a reasonable distance. Suppose I've missed out now?
