How much laundry is too much?
Back
ground 2 adults in the household both plus size. King size bedding.
My partner either goes to the gym/runs most days so of course extra
t-shirt, shorts and underwear everyday. Any how 2 days ago I did 3
washes. I have a 8kg machine.
- tea towels -always do seperate just how I am
- towels full load
- clothes
Yesterday I did one load and still have another load
left in the washing basket and bedding to do. And today I have done the bedding. I do wear outwear such a
T-shirts twice as long as I am not too sweaty or spilled food down it
.
jeans I wear 3 maybe 4 times again depends if I have got them dirty. I
just don't get how I can get it down any more. Next time I have to get
washing machine I'm getting an industrial one
.

Yours
Calley

I don't use a washing machine for tea towels. Instead I put 1 or 2 in a saucepan with a little detergent, add cold water, bring to the boil, turn off heat so simmers and cools, drain, rinse, hang to dry.
(Delicious!!)
Tea towels are hardly used - hand washed dishes drip dry, oven gloves used with cooker/heated items, and don't use to stabilise mixing bowls etc.

Husband is working from home. IF he goes out, he changes clothes and they go straight in the washing machine on a quick wash half load economy. Could be three times in one week or none for a month.
Otherwise, one load for towels, facecloths and tea towels, one wash for shirts and t-shirts, one load for bedding, one for miscellaneous. Try to do full loads for these. Washing as hot as poss using Persil Professional Hygiene powder and Dettol laundry cleaner.
Since he is working from home, washing can be put on while he eats breakfast or has a mid-morning coffee.
As for ironing, it's shirts, t-shirts, chinos nd trousers but not jeans. Nothing else gets ironed.
Yes we are doing more washing, but only the same amount of ironing.0 -
I feel your pain
Me and he indoors, both work in extremely casual/dare I say trampy clothes, come home, shower and nightwear goes on.
Haven't put real clothes on for months
Yet every week - at least 6 machine loads
Bedding takes 2 machines, the towels another, tea towels and dishcloths another . Work clothes at least one machine and then whites another. Ok I dont do a white wash every week but still thats at little as I feel I can do. I dont like mixing my washes, I like to keep things separated and my clothes and materials last a long time0 -
Am I really trampy? My gym and cycling clothes only get a proper wash every 7-10 days, in between I just put them in the machine on the delicates rinse cycle.3

The back of the t-shirt is normally soaking wet. So is hung up to dry and then washed properly when I do a full wash. If I did quick washes I would end up doing even more loads.YoursCalleyHope for everything and expect nothing!!!

Bedding one load once a week, towels one load once a week and alternative weeks a load of whites or darks or coloured clothes. Husband hand washes his cycling gear. My machine is 8 kg so getting enough items to fill it can be a problem, our clothes are not large items.0

I have said in past, that I actually do too little washing because I live alone, wear pyjamas at home which I wash once a week and since lockdown maybe 2-4 t shirts and like 1 pair of trousers and jeans so that gets done once a week and even then my washing machine isn't even half or maybe even a third full.I have never known the balance myself, I did get a new machine at start of year which has a quick wash feature which I mostly use for my jeans as I am worried a full wash will get rid of the dye and to pop say a t shirt in if I wore it for going out say twice to shops for less than a hour each time.Only problem with that is that the quick wash does a very low powered spin so even next day the clothes are damp.I do my bedding less than I should though so was thinking of doing that more often, its just that it tends to take a whole day to dry if not more and I just own 1 set of bedding so I only do it twice a month or so.3

If I do a quick wash I switch to the full spin after the programme has ended. At least two sets of bedding are better than trying to manage with one. There is a lot of low price bedding available. One extra set would solve the drying problem. Supermarkets usually have a decent range.pollyIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.4 -
Agree for 2 sets of bedding. Might be worth checking out any used sets in a charity shop as I have seen better quality fabric than in brand new SM ones.3
