Exchanging Full Licence
Hi guys, I have a Full Rep. of Ireland drivers licence which expired 4 years ago. An oversight on my part, due to the fact that since moving to the UK I haven’t been able to afford a car, plus 2 deaths in the family plus the pandemic made me a little hesitant in having to send my Irish passport to the DVLA in case I couldn’t get it back in time to fly home at short notice. I have no points, no restrictions or health problems, but yesterday I’ve received it in the post only to discover that I’ve been issued a provisional licence which includes class ‘A’ though I’ve never been on or tested on a motorcycle. I found a paragraph somewhere online since which states that If my licence expires more than 2 years ago they may make me take my test again but most likely if I was nearing age 70.. I’m age 40 and can’t find any specific guidelines for how they’ve made this decision. Would be grateful for any advice.

Can you not renew your Irish licence first then apply for a UK one?
Top marks for spelling licence correctly, not many do on here.1 -
Does it say "79 (tri)" after the class A bike entitlement?
That means it's only entitlement for tricycles, which is a legacy thing from the class changes to the European standard ones. You haven't gained a full bike licence.0
