British gas will not let me leave saying i have a debt on the account even though I haven't, I've been prepayment for 8 yrs...

Welcome to the forum.The reason some properties were placed on a prepayment meter was because of a debt - often a large debt. The principle was that this debt was paid off over a period - but there is a limit on how much additional money the energy company can take.The first thing to establish is if/why you are in debt.0
