Hi All,
My dad has a life insurance policy with St James place from 2005, however, a financial planning adviser intimated he had been missold this policy as he lived and worked outside of the UK from 2003 until recently in 2019. My dad has been burying his head in the sand about this issue but do you wonderful people think this would be sufficient grounds to raise a complaint? Also as it is more than 6 years what are my options with the FOS.
Thanks alot in advance

Is that an IFA that told him this or an FA? (it may be relevant as FAs are restricted and it may be that their product range doesn't cover it but doesn't mean others wouldn't. An IFA is whole of market (and cheaper) and wouldn't likely jump the gun by saying it was missold without asking the questions first). My dad has been burying his head in the sand about this issue but do you wonderful people think this would be sufficient grounds to raise a complaint?Does the SJP policy not cover him? At the moment, you don't know. So, the first thing to do is contact the SJP call centre and ask them. If they say it wouldn't cover him, then a complaint should be made. If they say he is covered then no complaint should be made. Also as it is more than 6 years what are my options with the FOS.The 6 year rule may be triggered but the 3 year rule has only just started (three years from becoming aware of an issue). However, this is jumping the gun. You need to find out by asking a simple question first. Jumping to complaint when there may be nothing wrong would be unfair on the FA that sold it as complaints against authorised individuals follow them forever, even if rejected.
