Advice on Water Softeners and Boiling Water Tap

We are moving into a new house next month and would like some advice please on purchasing and installing a Water Softener and a Boiling Water Tap. Are there any pitfalls to be wary of and any brands that are best avoided?

I've got a Reginox which was on offer earlier this year and has an in-line filter cartridge for the boiling water, I guess to stop the tank scaling up.  It does what it says on the tin, and though the water is 'only' 98C it still makes nice tea.  Took a bit of adjusting to tea with soft water which doesn't taste the same as with hard water.  It's noticeable that my glass teapot now remains clear where previously brown scale would build up.

Only difficult bit of installation was getting all the braided hoses through the hole in the worktop, and that at 42mm the beech worktop was too thick for the supplied spreader plate to be installed underneath between the worktop and the screw on retainer.  Doesn't seem to matter though.
