Sony XZ2 and mobile network advice?

Hi, I've tried to get help on my mobile network help community and a Sony forum on this but i'm getting nowhere, hoping someone here can help?
I recently bought a Sony XZ2 off ebay to replace my Sony XA1 which i liked but i need something that can wirelessly charge as i destroy charging ports on every phone i own!
The phone was advertised as unlocked, it works perfectly other than the network.
Even though it appears to be recognising my sim card (giffgaff/O2) and lets me make calls and sms, it doesn't let me use mobile data and still displays Virgin as the mobile network. When i go in to settings the mobile network is listed as Virgin if i go into choose network, O2 is listed as my home network?
Its been suggested to me that some phone sold by Virgin could still identfy as Virgin even if they are unlocked or is this phone still locked to Virgin?
I've tried doing a factory reset, no change.
i've asked for advice on the giffgaff forum and been sent various articles about checking coverage and someone suggested manually deleting existing settings and stored networks but i can't see how you do that on this phone?
Can anyone advise?

Have your tried this:

or just text ‘settings’ to 2020

Your phone is not locked to Virgin since you can make calls and send texts.
A phone would usually pick up the correct settings when you reboot or toggle airplane mode on/off, but sometimes that doesn't happen and you have to edit the settings manually. So edit the phone's APN settings using the link @[Deleted User] provided.

The phone still displays Virgin as my network, but giffgaff is now the APN and the data is working.
