Refund of laptop

I purchased an Acer Chromebook last week from John Lewis. I am very clueless when it comes to tech and simply read that it was compatible with Microsoft Office by downloading an app.
"Download MS Office. At the time of writing (2020) Microsoft enables you to download their Office apps, like Word or Excel for free when using an Android device (such as this one)."
I assumed this meant I could use Word in the same way I do on my Acer PC on my Chromebook once I had the app. Having set the laptop up and spending hours trying to install MS Office I gave up as I couldn't get the full version. I rang their Tech Support today and was told it only supports the basic app version which isn't the full version and doesn't have some key features I need. This means it is completely useless to me.
I have asked to return it but they have said that their refund policy is that if you set up a laptop it's non-refundable. I would never have set it up had I known it wasn't what I needed. I am an absolute novice and I just didn't realise there was a difference in the MS full and app versions.
I don't know where I stand now. I need to buy another laptop and have asked if they'd refund me in vouchers but I don't know if they'll agree - didn't sound hopeful on the phone. Am I now stuck with the one I have? I even purchased 2 year extended cover - so sure was I that it would do the job. I paid for it all on my credit card.

You bought it in store or online?
What features of Word does it not support that you want to use? Have you looked at the web app version to see if it has the features.
The immediate issue is that it only says its compatible not that it runs the full versions.0 -
The word version on the chrome book will be incredibly similar to the Web version. You should find it comparable.
What features do you feel you're missing?0 -
