Advance rail tickets

Now Boris has put the brakes on opening up, I’ve already heard about a couple of event cancellations.

Unfortunately I have spent quite a lot of money on “Advance” train fares. I can’t even change them (for a fee) as the start point for my journey will no longer be appropriate in a months time. Is there any chance of getting a refund, or a credit, as happened earlier in the pandemic?

My tickets are e-tickets so I can’t do it in person at the ticket office and the instruction (were I wanting to simply reschedule the same ticket) is to simply book new tickets and cancel the old ones, giving the reference for the new ticket (which must be for the exact same route). Then I’m at their mercy, having paid twice.

  • You will need to read the terms and conditions you booked under.

If you booked “advance” fares during a pandemic then you will be subject to those terms.
All you can do is ask who ever you booked with what they will offer you.
