Could I ask what members' opinions are on Smithson Investment Trust. They seemed to be doing well but have apparently had a less than impressive showing YTD, relatively speaking:

SSON is a core holding for me alongside Fundsmith. I see both as defensive growth and don’t care if they underperform the current fad for value in a short timeframe. Long term, they are likely to continue to do what I want them to.The fascists of the future will call themselves anti-fascists.1

Many thanks, both.

It’s what my SIPP is invested in, good move so far. ( not suggesting all eggs’ in one basket is a good move for most people)

What's your investment rational for buying this particular trust? YTD performance is neither here nor there. As it's a concentrated fund. Are there particular holdings of interest?0

I bought in at the IPO and been very happy so far as it has done what the prospectus said. Pretty stable group of quality holdings. It works pretty much like Fundsmith but at a smaller cap. The trust premium hovers around 2% much of the time.0

SSON is a good option for small caps, I use BG Discovery myself, but personal preference"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
