Using the washing machine in my new house for the first time, my white socks have got little dark spots on them that were not there when they went in!
I did run the machine empty on a hot wash with the usual detergent before I used it, any suggestions what to try to remedy this...? Here is a photo of it:

White sock.
Little black spots.
Not sure I agree with either of those.
Do you know how long it has been there.
Has it been left with door shut for some time.
Does it drain properly.
Owned or rental?0 -
Owned sadly (in this case!)
It was left in only maybe an hour or so after it finished...
There was no water in the drum, but the socks were definitely wetter than usual, well going by the washing machine in my last house at least

How long is it likely the machine had not been used beofre you used it.
Soem machine can get lots of black mold in the soap dispenser draw, whch may have been washed through. Also, take the drawer right out and look at the 'ceilingf' of the hole it has come from. We have had washing machines where black mold has flourished there3 -
I think since February to be honest!
I’ll do as you advise and see if it helps…0 -
run it on a "hot" wash with some white vinegar in the drum1

Maybe try running it with a Dr Beckman's washing machine cleaner, or Google online your make/model with the problem. It was only when my machine did the same that I bothered to read the instruction manual! Turned out my washer has a specific 'cleaning' programme which I was meant to run, with the drum empty, every thirty loads.0

It probably just needs a good clean. Simple to do:1. Clean the door seal thoroughly with a damp cloth and a bit of diluted bleach solution2. Remove the drain filter and give it a good clean (both the filter itself and the housing). An old toothbrush is a useful tool for this.3. Remove the detergent drawer and give it a good clean - also remove the fabric conditioner syphon thingy from the drawer and clean that and the syphon hole.4. Clean the "roof" where the detergent drawer goes using a cloth and an old toothbrush5. Run it through on a hot wash, empty, with some soda crystals in it.Odds on that'll do the trick. It'll take you 10 minutes tops to do the cleaning, and less than a quid for some soda crystals. For example : https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/258133332 (available pretty much anywhere, and they're useful for loads of general cleaning jobs)
