    They are entitled to repair, and to inspect to make sure the damage isn't something you've done.
    There's no need to worry about the repair shop, as when repaired you'll have the remainder of your warranty left. 

    There is already a blanket law governing this - you're using a retailer that is sticking to the letter of the law. You just don't like the law in question. :) 
    It's a hedge trimmer, not an electric wheelchair - you'll cope fine without it for a few weeks I'm sure.

    FYI, really shouldn't be cutting hedges yet anyway whilst all the birds are still nesting. Mine are full of them at the moment so I'll be putting my first trim off for a few weeks.

    No fear of that is there, my trimmer is broken and will be away for weeks on end! Anyway I know this however my hedge overhangs a public walkway so I’m allowed to cut it and have only cut the one side for now.

    Easy to be flippant when it’s not your money or you being inconvenienced. Maybe you could try not be so annoying :)
