Why don't you read the link then try comparison sites. Don't necessarily go for the absolute cheapest, but with a company that you trust.

The underwriter must have added the area concerned to a list of areas they won't cover due to excess claims / fraud etc - car insurance companies do the same.
While cover was in force continuously the underwriter may have had an exception set up to allow cover to continue, but once cover expired this no longer applied.0 -
If you Dad has dementia why not insure in your mum's name with him as joint policy holder ??
