Car Insurance Question - Mechanical Write Off

Hi,
My car is going to cost a lot more to fix than the car is actually worth. I called Churchill (my car insurer) to see if they could help but they said they only cover for accidents and not for mechanical failure. I was hoping they would write the car off as a technical write off or help with the repairs at least. Is this right that they cannot help with mechanical failure?
Thanks

Car insurance doesn't cover maintenance and repair costs. That's your responsibility as the owner.0

Yes it's correct. Car insurance covers unexpected, one-off events that cause damage to your car - road accidents, fire, theft, vandalism, flood etc. It doesn't cover things like routine maintenance, wear and tear, defective parts or mechanical failure. If your car is still under warranty then the warranty is a form of "insurance" that covers those things; if it's out of warranty I'm afraid they're basically part of the joy of being a car owner.

What car, how old and how much did you pay? I assume it was an old banger?"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Have you had a quote from a dealer or back st garage?
There might be options to get it done more cheaply e.g.. with scrap yard or reconditioned parts.0 -
You have misunderstood what car insurance is for - this isn't covered by any 'normal' car insurance policy.
You need something like breakdown and parts cover to insure against mechanical problems.0
