I didn't watch the government briefing. What was said which contradicts what I said?swleventhal said:
Really? Hmm. Maybe I was watching a different government briefing last night. Regardless, I think human life should always take priority over profits and money.Type_45 said:A government which has crashed the economy with lockdowns and will continue to do so. This will hollow out British businesses and increase the advantages and profits of multinational organisations such as Amazon etc.
I don't think the UK will ever compete with the US in the mega-tech/industry sectors. I see the value in the UK at lower levels - small cap companies that are more agile and growing. However, you won't find these companies in the the main index funds.0 -
What does it mean to up their allocation please? If the UK does badly, would it not be better to have less of it? (Temporarily ignoring not trying to time the market)aroominyork said:
That's because VLS is overweight to the UK which over the last 5+ years has performed worst of the six main regions (UK, Europe, US, Japan, EM, AP). You will find people on this forum talking about recently upping their UK allocation. Who knows what the future holds.Type_45 said:But VLS wasn't quite a good over the last 5 years as the other two, with HSBC a clear winner.Statement of Affairs (SOA) link: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/financecalculators/soa.phpFor free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline. Which economies are currently doing well?Type_45 said:
What we know of the UK's future, at least until 2029 and almost certainly longer, is that it will have this Conservative government in charge. A government which has crashed the economy with lockdowns and will continue to do so.aroominyork said:

no harm in having other index trackers in your portfolio from different fund houses, spreads the risk and diversity to an extent. But most have a heavy weighting in USA to be fair"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"
