O/S Daily Monday 14 June 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and I'm enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork with all he trimmings, very nice it was too, some LO's that will become tonight or tomorrow night's dinner. I have loads of food in the fridge so trying to use up what needs using up first and really trying to limit throwing things away.
Back to work this morning, expect it will busy as it has been the last 3 weeks - we'll see what's happening.
DH had his 2nd jab yesterday and seems ok thus far. Mine's this week too.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone
Something I forgot to say in my post I managed to grab a bargain on Friday when I was doing the food shopping. MrL do the £1.50 fruit and veg boxes, but I've never been able to get one until Friday - I feel I got a bargain - it had in it an iceberg lettuce, a banana, good amount of grapes, some strawberries, raspberries, cherries, 3 leeks, 3 good sized potatoes, 1x green and 1 x yellow peppers, 2 x apples, 2 x red onions. To my calculations just the amount of strawberries and grapes is worth well over £1.50 without anything else! So really pleased with that, shame they are not more readily available, only if they need to get rid of stock.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, I've had a couple of those boxes and they are good value if it's what you use.
Really warm day yesterday but very windy, repotted all the tomatoes and cucumbers, the extra courgettes have been planted in the garden (if they are courgettes, the writing on the labels washed off so not sure if they are courgette, cucumber or squash!). Watered everything well but there was heavy rain during the night so shouldn't have bothered!
Your new cupboard sounds lovely Ruby, my vintage china gets used regularly, not valuable but I like it.
Last whole week at work, so much to do still. The school will be watching the first half of the Scotland game this afternoon so I should get peace to get something done.
Hope everyone's well, take care. XX14 -
Morning folks, thanks for starting us off nmlc.
It was very humid last night, hope it's more comfortable today. Last night I slept a bit better, all that sunshine and chat really helped me relax a bit.Yesterday I emptied the freezer. All the food had been in there since at least 2019, not wrapped properly and was mostly fish which I don't eat. I felt mildly guilty but it can't be helped. I'm recycling everything possible. There's a church nearby which provides stuff to people who have been homeless and now been given a place to live. They'll take the kitchen equipment, crockery and cutlery etc.Today there's an auctioneer coming round to look at some paintings which DM had bought a few years ago. The vast majority of the ones on every wall were done by DM, these are being given to her friends with a few going off to Oz for the family. He'll also look at general bric-a-brac. Once he's gone I can tidy up the dining room (I hope) as it's a bit of a guddle. For now I'm going to do a little browsing, a gentle start to my day. I hope that others have the same. Thoughts to our poorlies. Happy Monday to all.15 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting us off. It's a bit of a drab start for us and the wind is still with us. The sun is forecast to peep through this afternoon. The wind that has been ever present for 3 or 4 days has managed to flatten my poor poppies. It happens every year at this time - it must be the windy season hereabouts!. The peonies are about to open up and then they too will be lying flat on the ground. I say it every year but (famous last words!) next year I must get some sort of supports for them!
As it turned out I didn't really need the warning of a possible noisy football party yesterday! It started to look ominous when he set up their big screen tv in the garden in the morning but it was all very civilised in the end. It did get a little bit noisier in the evening but not enough to disturb me and by 9.30 everyone seemed to have gone home!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Thinking of our poorlies, poorly loved ones and those with worries and woes. Take care all xx

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC, that fruit and veg box sounds pretty good valus - I've never seen them. I shop there occasionally and I like it, there's one about 3 miles away. You'l be glad when this week is over Camelot, hope it goes quickly for you.Glad that your Mum's kitchen stuff is going to a good home Gers, it's such a pity when perfectly good stuff has to be taken to the tip. Our DS in Oz once took us to a huge charity shop, run by the "Salvos", well it was the size of one of our DIY places. It had absolutely everything. You could easily have furnished a home there, it was all good stuff. We once bought a lovely nest of tables which were better than the ones we had, for £25 at one of the charity shops that are furniture only, we were on holiday. We've still got them. After my talk yesterday of staying at home, we ended up at a BBQ for the afternoon - Dil texted to say her DB and his wife were having one, and anyone wanting to watch the England match could do so. Would we like to go? So the hedge was left half cut, the trimmings swept up though. We got ready and called at Morries on the way for some food and drink, and had a lovely afternoon. There were 10 of us and 3 children, but half of us didn't watch the match, just sat outside talking, it was lovely. Anyway, talking about our hedge being half cut, I was heading that way myself! So today the hedge will be finished, and I'll be doing a few jobs round the house.Hope everyone has a good day, take care folks.13

Morning all haven't been on for a week as i really haven't got much to say we are still moving bits and i will start selling the big stuff this week or next the sofa bed is already for sale but i have been getting silly offers its still in the shops for £800 and i am asking for £300 we only used it once and its sat in the conservatory still never mind but i think i will have to take a lower offer at some point its a shame but the chaise is the wrong side for the big house lounge .
Right better get on its going to be another hot one stay cool stay safe hugs to all the poorlies and those looking after them xSlava Ukraini14 -
Hi everyone,
I hope you all had a good weekend. We went to a barbecue at Chris and Crystal's. The female half of her family was there with their partners (mum and 2 sisters), her 3 brothers didn't come. We had a lovely afternoon although I managed to bun the back of my neck a bit, it's no longer sore though so it wasn't too bad. We ended up taking our barbie across because Chris hadn't managed to get one, it made him more determined to replace his though.
Yesterday I did some gentle housework, made some focaccia, meringues and a baked egg custard (to use up the yolks, for once I earn my MSE spurs on the daily). Today, Laura and Brian are coming, Brian is going golfing with Steve, then will watch Scotland play. Laura needs to study and or work and I shall have the pleasure of Esben's company.13 -
Morning all! Sunny again, will I get tired of saying that? Only if it's 35 ° degrees I will. Had a nice lazy weekend, the cake went down well, I wasn't tempted by nibbles, Saturday I can't even remember what I did and yesterday was pick something up bought from FB, alight to go in the hallway which I might fit today or tomorrow, cup of tea in a friends garden and a lot of watering and moving and potting plants on last night when the sun had lost nuclear hotness. One water butt is empty so I have one left before I start moaning about 'isn't it time to rain yet?'.Today, fetching things from Freecycle, just to replace something I broke and something I've been looking for for a while on the off chance...One of those lights that you can pull up and down. OH is on lates so just me for tea/supper all week and that means not making much of an effort, probably a lot of mackerel will be eaten this week. Imagine my brain power after that though...I'll be able to count very quickly I also have to finally get round to drilling some drainage holes in a couple of pots and using them to shift some stuff into. I'm just keeping everything in pots this year so I can save them to go in the ground next year, after the house shennanigans are over.Camelot, you watch football in school? Wow, we should have been so lucky [not to watch football, just to watch something live and not made in the 1970's...] Gers, going great guns and not to worry, sometimes it's just not possible to send everything off to a good home. TA, well that was fairly considerate of them then and a result! Yes, get some canes or those funny half circle metal things. Ruby, happy admiring your cupboard day! I have one of those mixing bowls, probably not the very expensive one. Got it from a charity shop a while ago now. Scarlet, if I went to one of those places you probably wouldn't see me for a week. I really want to go to some of the ones in France...You all seem to have had lovelyweekends with BBQs featuring heavily Okey cokey, have to stir myself while it's still relatively cool, have a great day if you can or a good day or even just an OK day....Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...12

Morning everyone
A workman arrived at 8am to fix my broken upstairs toilet - it wouldn't fill up or flush. Little one will be happy - on Saturday she kept saying 'granny is toilet still broken? You go to downstairs toilet!'
I'd said I needed them to come before I go to work at 11, so he must have been sent here first - he then sat in his van for half an hour with his flask.
I managed to get the grass at the back cut yesterday and trimmed the edges, but it was very windy. Sheltered in the back doorway and read my book and some of my Sunday Times, but the wind spoilt the lovely sunshine. Still blowing this morning!
DD and little one came up for their tea so that was nice.
Scarlet - we have one of those big Salvation army charity shops here. I love going for a look and always find something I 'need!' They deliver big items and collect unwanted furniture too to sell in the store. Before Covid I got a lot of little ones toys there, but they're not selling toys just now.
TA - it was quiet up here yesterday too - just one big cheer after 3 which I assumed was England scoring.
Well I'd better move and get some jobs done.
Hope everyone has a good day

Morning, hugs if you need one. Power to your elbow Gers, you are doing so well.
Very hot yesterday, too hot to sit in the garden so back door wide open to catch what ever breeze there was.
Coloureds are in the washer, there is a breeze this morning so they should dry ok.
DB phoned the Dr this morning, appointment for 4.20 this afternoon for her to inspect the leg. I have left the patch on this morning, it will have to come off at the Drs anyway, too mean to waste a dressing!!
Fairly bust week, chiropodist tomorrow, nice comfy feet to go away. Wednesday it is the coffee morning, so I will get rid of the two remaining cushions. Thursday we have the assessor coming to look at the bedroom carpet and friday , we are off for a long awaited break. Not sure how the extension of the lockdown is going to affect us regarding meals out, we will have to see. We have a table booked for Sunday lunch, its DB's 88th birthday!!
Not sure about supper, it may well be salad of some description, we will finish up the bread and butter pudding.7
