This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Good morning, another fine morning here (having said that it's just clouded over)I haven't posted for a few days because we've been away in the caravan, we returned yesterday..I've just read Saturday's postings, will read further back later. We've had a lovely few days, and it didn't rain at all! It was a bit cooler, being right on the coast, but we didn't mind that.Gers, I see you are still working like mad at your Mum's place, you are doing really well.Nels, I find a fan plugged in by the bed is very helpful for these warm nights when you wake up in a lather.I'm just tidying today, yesterday I put washing in as soon as we got back and of course it dried so quickly, I love these warm summer days. On the downside the garden was in need of a good watering, DD had watered the plants in the backyard though, and I harvested a few potatoes yesterday from one of the bags, they look nice.I'll plod on today, and there's a bit of shopping needed.Hope everyone has a good Sunday, take care folks13

Morning folks, thanks for starting us off Scarlet.I've been awake since about 4a.m. just running stuff through my mind. Yesterday Alan and I cleared out the big pantry, he took away the majority of the tins and dried foods. Most will go to a friend with only a few things for the bin. I'd done the major stuff earlier in the year. After Alan left I had a wobble. Upshot is that number one nephew is coming up on Wednesday to give me a hug. ❤️ He offered to bring wine but I said I'd do that as it's not his best skill. 🤣
This morning I'll be taking more bags to the tip and recycling centre before having breakfast in the wee cafe. Then I have to put out some some things which I want the auctioneer to look at tomorrow.Perhaps the rain will hold off, I know that the gardens need it but I don't.Happy Sunday to all.13 -
Morning folks and welcome back SCARLET. I feel a bit more awake this morning, yesterday I felt like a soggy biscuit all day long. I was sitting out reading in the afternoon when the new (well new 2 years ago!) young neighbour accosted me to apologise in advance for today's noise!! They are having friends up to watch England this afternoon, with drinks and a BBQ. She said one or two of them get louder the more they drink! So that's probably all of them! I said not to worry about it (but thinking differently!)
I have washing to peg out when I get dressed and then I'll do a freezer dive and find something that doesn't involve putting the oven on in this heat. No Sunday roast for me!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, poorly loved ones and those with woes. GERS it's still early days there will be lots more wobbles yet. But how lovely that your nephew wants to visit and give you a big hug. Have a lovely day if you can folks and take care. xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Thanks for the start Scarlet. Glad you had a good break.
Gers, you must be a very special person, so many people gathering round to help you and give you moral and physical support. Enjoy your time with your nephew.
TA, at least your neighbour gave you fair warning and an advance apology, Too many get offended if asked to turn the noise down and belligerently make it worse. I wonder if the other neighbours have been warned as well.
Ear plugs?
I've no plans for today other than church this morning. Waste of time in my opinion, with no singing just people going though the motions, but I would want to support those who do turn up. Then I will be home, reading , listening to music and having cold chicken and salad for lunch. The very best thing about living alone is being able to eat what you want, when you want and if you want. No cooking a roast on a hot summer's day because "it wouldnt feel like Sunday without it."
Enjoy the day everyone.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Morning all. Hot here already so I have the curtains pulled and the windows open at the back.
Yesterday I was with DD at a Dressage event; she was so pleased her classes were early on, before it got too hot, but it was actually not too bad, with shade and a general breeze. It was her first live event so she was very nervous but she did really well.
Today I've already pegged out some washing and will do the bedding once DH vacates the bed! Might then have a quick shower and pop out before it gets too hot. We're having sweet chilli chicken thighs and salad for dinner and every time I open the fridge door I can smell the chicken!
Keep cool and carry on today folks.12 -
Morning everyone
Was lovely and sunny all day here yesterday - though quite windy. It seems to have dropped a bit this morning.
I'm planning on cooking a roast chicken for tea tonight - I'll have it with salad and couscous. I put it in the fridge to defrost, but it hasn't. It's now sitting in the downstairs bathroom so hopefully will defrost during the day. I can't leave anything out in the kitchen - big cat would have it!
TA - at least they apologised in advance - it will probably be noisy up here too if England are playing - but my neighbours seem to just assume everyone likes their noise! It's not the ones right next to me but diagonal across from my back garden.
Ive cleaned bathrooms and have towels in washing. I'll go down to do dads jobs about half 9 when mam goes to chuch. Planning to cut the grass at the back this afternoon and then read in the sunshine - unless DD suggests a trip out.
Hope everyone has a good day12 -
Morning All
Overcast this morning but very warm. I've been for an hours walk along the river and it was really lovely, only saw a couple of folk with dogs or running. Bedding on the line, should dry quickly today.
Had a lovely afternoon with DD and the little one, she's quite the daredevil at the park and seems to make friends very quickly although no-one knows what she's saying! Made a veggie risotto for tea, little one picked out all the mushrooms to eat first, brocolli second then the green beans and peas, rice last, had to give her the mushrooms from my plate. Such a joy to see her eating so well.
Glad you had a good break Scarlett, I love the Northumberland coast.
Gers, you will have to stop for a rest soon! Glad your nephew is coming to give you a hug.
I'm going to re-pot the tomatoes today and split some of the houseplants - Chinese Money/Pancake plants - they have little babies growing so they can have pots of their own. Not sure what I'm going to do with them just can't bear to throw them out.
Have a happy Sunday, take care. XX10 -
Morning all
Another lovely day here its very warm already I have just been out to top up the bird and hedgehog water I swear they form an orderly queue waiting for me
Had a really bad nights sleep I was still awake at 3 and got up to make a horlicks in the hope of it sending me off, I think I went off just before 4 in the end so feeling a bit jaded today.
Got my new cupboard built yesterday, well OH did it I just passed bits when required, and then spent a lovely time arranging my bowls they do look lovley and its handy having them all in one place.
Today I think I will make up some sandwiches and we will get the dogs out ffor a long walk we will go to the woods I think as its cooler for them there and hopefully the exercise will help me sleep tonight.
Quiche for dinner with salad and Jersey Royals we will probably eat in the garden as its so nice.
Gers its still very early days you take care of yourself xxx
Have good days all xxx10 -

Morning Campers ! I didn't manage to get on here yesterday because I was sooooo busy. I stripped the bed, washed the bedding and another load, cleaned the bedroom, dug the new border over and found a potato plant which I must have missed last year so I've left that one grow. I gave 2 shrubs a drastic haircut as they had got too big for their boots and were almost throttling my dwarf rhododendrum which is now 12 ft high
I moved buckets full of earth to back fill a new step that I made and de-weeded the border which is now ready for my new plants. I got himself to sort out and cull his work clothes cupboard as I vanished under an avalanche when I opened it, so I lost the plot over that and I think he then realised there were too many ( I'd been telling him for quite a while)
Today I shall help Mr Fix It put up my new outside clock and as usual I shall be on gofer duty again. I really need to mow the lawns too but it may get too hot so that may happen later this evening when the sun has gone down, or tomorrow. I also need to do an online shop sometime today. Tea tonight will be minted lamb chops but it may be too hot for roasties and veg, we'll see.Scarlett glad you had a good time.Gers enjoy your wine and visit from number one nephew.Nelski sorry I missed the spa yesterday, I hope "Darren on the decks" was a suitable replacement and at least he's a bit more eye candy than I am 😂 See you later though if you're open for business💙TA you have good neighbours who have warned you in advance. Mine are loud all the timeEven when they talk they always sound like they are arguing
As they are foreign ( eastern bloc perhaps ?) it just sounds like a cacophony of noise.
Right himself is surveying the outside wall, I'd better go and join him and stand hands on hips just looking at it 🤣Take care all.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently12
