Hi
we have been awarded a grant or a extra downstairs bedroom for our daughter who has autism.
what happens next after been awarded it?
if the bedroom is going at the back,it would make more sense for us to extend our kitchen because it is very small.
do we have any input?
we own our home.
thanks for any advice

My local authority website has some quite detailed information about  disabled facilities grants. Perhaps the first step is to google your local authority  to find out the rules/ procedure  for  DFGs and contact  nos in your area?

Don't be surprised if you're refused this, unless the kitchen will help your daughter then it maybe a different story. Either way, you would need to speak to your LA.

Agree with this. If it's not part of the assessment and directly for the disabled persons needs you can't do it.

A couple of weeks ago MSE newsletter had a letter from a guy called Frank who’d been able to have nil personal contribution for his Disabled Facilities Grant because he received SMI on his Council Tax. My parents have been asked to pay towards their DFG even though my mum gets SMI. I have tried every council/government department I can think of and no one has heard of this. The DFG team haven’t heard of it either. Does anyone know who I can contact?  It’s quite urgent as everything is ready to be signed.

A new thread would have been better rather than asking on someone else's. To answer your question all local councils have their own criteria for DFG's.
